Armor has been producing 3D printing filaments for 3 years now. Boosted by its initial successes, today the group offers a 360° range named Kimya, consisting of both materials and services dedicated to additive manufacturing (3D printing).
Transforming metal into gold!
"Kimya takes its inspiration from the Arabic word "alkīmiyā", the root of the word "alchemy". It is all about associating 3D printing with this discipline and capitalising on the concept of transforming a starting material into something exceptional", explains Pierre-Antoine Pluvinage, Development Manager for the Kimya range. It is also an ambition shared by today's booming 3D sector. Global sales in 3D printing (products and services) rose by 21% last year, comfortably clearing 7 billion dollars.
A new 360° offering
Kimya began its operations by marketing eco-designed and recycled 3D filaments, supported by a collection service for print waste. Today the available range consists of a dozen filaments, under the name of Kimya Materials. The best known is the PS OWA by Kimya, which was used to produce the dome of the customisable OWA Speaker. Kimya today offers industrial companies and operators in the additive manufacturing sector a range of novel support and R&D services of high added value, named the Kimya Lab. Kimya's experts can, for example, "characterise" a material, i.e. measure its flexibility, colorimetry and impact resistance. Above all, Kimya Lab provides its industrial customers with support in formulating bespoke materials to meet specific needs.
Kimya is one of the new businesses developed by the industrial group Armor, which has based its business model on co-development with industrial firms and printer manufacturers. A key operator in a booming industry, Kimya seeks to play the role of facilitator. Through Kimya Services, the company makes available to its customers its entire network of partners recognised throughout the 3D printing sector. It has been a highly positive experience for Airbus. Through the Kimya network, the aviation group has acquired a German RepRap X500 printer and A3D filaments.
