Cooperation for market development in additive manufacturing

TÜV SÜD and the American standardization organization ASTM International today signed a cooperation agreement at the formnext 2019 trade fair. The contents include a reciprocal transfer of know-how and measures to make it easier for companies to access the US and European markets. The USA is the partner country of the trade fair for additive manufacturing.

The declaration of intent was signed today at the formnext trade fair. TÜV SÜD and ASTM International have agreed, among other things, to offer joint conferences, training courses, training courses and workshops in the future and to work closely together on qualifications and certifications. "The aim is to further accelerate market development and close gaps in standards and normative requirements," says Gregor Reischle, Head of Additive Manufacturing at TÜV SÜD. "Particularly in regulated industries such as railways, aviation and medical technology, there is still a lack of uniform and reliable standards and conformity requirements with additive-manufactured components.

Ken Walsh, Principal Commercial Officer of the U.S. Commercial Service & U.S. Consulate Düsseldorf, says: "The new technology is changing our production world and turning traditional business models upside down. It is therefore important that US companies work closely with their European partners to develop these new technologies and business models together and in close cooperation".

"To realize the full potential of AM, we need an intelligent global ecosystem of research, standardization, education, testing and certification," said Dr. Mohsen Seifi, Director of Global Additive Manufacturing Programs at ASTM International. "We are pleased to sign this agreement, which brings together the complementary strengths of two world-renowned companies and helps create a solid technical foundation for AM innovation in many industries.
