Stratasys 3D Printing Featured at Sold-Out Surgical Planning Workshops for over 600 Physicians and Technicians at RSNA

Patient Mia Gonzales' life-threatening heart defect was reversed when surgeons used a Stratasys 3D printed model of her heart to plan surgery Stratasys introduces medical solutions group, deepening its commitment to the medical industry

Stratasys Ltd. (Nasdaq:SSYS), the 3D printing and additive manufacturing solutions company, is supporting four sold-out 3D printing workshops for over 600 physicians and technicians at the 2015 Radiological Society of North America annual meeting, Nov. 29 – Dec. 4 in Chicago.

"These hands-on workshops address the increased global demand for 3D printed medical models to support clinical education and training, pre-surgical planning, and research," says Scott Rader, General Manager of Stratasys Medical Solutions. "As more hospitals adopt 3D printing, there is a potential for shortage of hospital staff trained on the technology." Led by Dr. Frank Rybicki from the University of Ottawa, the workshops will showcase Stratasys 3D printing solutions. The workshops will train attendees on taking patient-specific imaging from MR/CT scans and preparing the files for 3D printing. Using 3D printing, physicians can 3D print accurate models of patient anatomy to better plan procedures expected to improve patient outcomes and operating room efficiency.

In addition to these medical 3D printing workshops at RSNA, Stratasys will showcase its 3D printing technology at another event and three booths at the conference. These include:

"3D Printing? Ask the Experts"
Stratasys and Materialise will be co-hosting an event, "3D Printing? Ask the Experts" Tuesday, December 1st at 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. Dr. Frank Rybicki of the Ottawa Hospital, Dr. Jonathan Morris of The Mayo Clinic and Justin Ryan, PhD of Phoenix Children's Hospital will discuss the current and future state of 3D printing in the medical industry. Following the presentations, the Stratasys Medical Solutions team will be available for any additional questions.

Stratasys Booth
Stratasys will display its 3D printing solutions and 3D printed medical models at North – Hall B: booth 8518.

Vital Images Booth
Stratasys 3D Printing Solutions will also be on display at the Vital Images booth (North – Hall B: 7946), along with examples of 3D printed anatomical models. Vital Images' software takes patient scans and converts them into STL files that can be sent directly to a 3D printer, resulting in significant hospital workflow improvements and making 3D printing more accessible to hospitals.

Live 3D Printing Exhibit
A Stratasys Objet500 Color, Multi-material Connex3 3D Printer will be on display at the Live 3D Printing Education Exhibit - Level 3 Hall D of Lake Side Learning Center.

Stratasys Announces New Medical Solutions Group

Stratasys also announced its new medical solutions group and a deepened commitment to the medical market for 3D printing.

The Stratasys Medical Solutions Group is part of the company's larger vertical business unit, which focuses on vertical expertise to provide specific industry focused applications and solutions. The medical VBU focuses on various medical applications that serve both patient care and medical devices. The group offers efficiencies to the medical world, including the following:

Patient Care

Greater levels of success/time savings in operating rooms for doctors and hospitals: 3D Models created prior to operations quickly, cost-effectively, and accurately.
Improved individual procedure outcomes: Using surgical pre-planning models.
Accelerated procedure volume: With less risk of infection and complications.
Heightened practitioner clinical preparedness: Via creation of realistic anatomical models customized for training.
Better fit, form, function and affordability: With personalized prosthetics, bionics and orthotics.

Medical Devices

Better preclinical device testing and evaluation: Using realistic anatomical models for validation and verification.
Cost-effective, rapid development and high performance: For additively manufactured end-user medical devices.
Shorter cycle times: With cost-effective, rapid prototyping of medical devices and disposal of medical instruments.

"We view the medical market as one of the fastest growing spaces within 3D printing," says Dan Yalon, Executive Vice President, Strategy, Business Development and Vertical Solutions at Stratasys. "This market is strategically important for Stratasys to advance patent care by increasing operation success, reducing complications and shortening surgery times in operating rooms. We are investing to develop the solutions, personnel and capabilities to make Stratasys a leader in this space."

More than 50 years of medical industry experience shape the medical solutions group at Stratasys:

Richard Garrity, VP and General Manager, Vertical Solutions, Richard Garrity is VP and General Manager, Vertical Solutions for Stratasys. Heading the Vertical Solutions division, Garrity is responsible for defining additive manufacturing solutions that complement or displace traditional manufacturing processes, addressing the growing demand across key vertical markets of aerospace, automotive, medical, dental, and education. Garrity joined Stratasys in 2010 previously serving as the VP and General Manager for its RedEye subsidiary (now part of Stratasys Direct Manufacturing) where he led aggressive growth and expansion for the advanced digital manufacturing service provider.
