Telemarketing tops list of jobs likely to be done by a robot
Research into the kinds of jobs most susceptible to computerization has revealed some of the roles likely to be taken by robots in the years to come.
Researchers Carl Frey and Michael Osborne took a detailed look at 702 occupations to develop in-depth data about the employment opportunities most open to robotics. Telemarketers topped the list, with data indicating their roles are 99 per cent likely to become fully automated. Book keepers and those in administration roles related to financial services – such as bank tellers and cashiers - are also likely to see increasing automation.
Factors considered in determining the likelihood of robotic intervention included the need to come up with clever solutions, how much a role involves directly helping other people and whether or not a role requires negotiation skills. Occupations that don't feature these activities are more likely to be handled by a machine than jobs where interpersonal skills are most valued.
Occupational therapists, however, can rest easy with the data suggesting that at 0.3 percent chance of automation, this and other hands-on jobs in the medical sphere are likely to stay in human hands for the time being.
