Randstad Sourceright Uncovers Leading Trends for Developing a Mobile Workplace

Key Findings Reveal the Best Strategies to Recruit, Engage and Retain an Always-on, Highly Connected Workforce

Randstad Sourceright, a global talent leader, has revealed its findings on how employers are facing the challenge of recruiting today's candidates, who are connected like never before and have more control over how, when and where they work. Drawing from its signature research, "The Randstad Sourceright 2015 Talent Trends Report," the company shares insights on how employers can effectively recruit the mobile-enabled, on-demand workforce to meet their organizational objectives.

Randstad Sourceright's 2015 Talent Trends Report is based on the survey responses of 350 HR directors, talent acquisition leaders and HR managers, focusing on the biggest trends and challenges impacting their recruiting success. The report identified five major trends in how companies are overcoming talent shortages and skills gaps by leveraging an increasingly mobile and always-connected candidate pool. Key findings include:

Talent Engagement Goes Mobile

As more job seekers expect a mobile-optimized candidate experience, employers must be ready to deliver a candidate friendly user experience, enabling candidates to view their open positions, learn about the company and apply to jobs all on their mobile devices. This also entails facilitating how those candidates can apply beyond the standard resume, whether applying via their LinkedIn profiles or submitting video resumes. Overall, employers must adapt their technology and ensure enough bandwidth to address the habits of today's mobile candidates.

Leveraging Remote Work Arrangements

This highly connected workforce has made it easier than ever for companies to employ top talent located anywhere in the world, ensuring they have access to the right-fit talent, wherever those individuals may reside. Randstad Sourceright's survey found that more than three-quarters (77 percent) of respondents agree they need to create greater flexible working options, such as variable work hours, job-sharing or work from home arrangements. Not only does remote work enable employers to access the talent they need to fill key gaps, but it also provides those remote workers with greater work/life balance, resulting in higher employee satisfaction.

The Rise of the Gig Worker

Not only are employees demanding more control over where they work, but they also want more say in when and how much they work, leading many to become independent contractors. But it's not just the workers who benefit; such arrangements also help employers build a more agile workforce of talent they can call on to assist with pressing projects, and scale back in quieter times. The use of such talent is growing, as Randstad Sourceright found that nearly half (47 percent) of HR leaders factor independent contracts as part of their talent acquisition strategy.

The Changing Shape of MSP

Total spend under MSPs (managed services programs) continues to grow, and the rise of the independent worker is one of the leading drivers. With more workers now classified as "flexible," whether contingent, contractor or statement of work, MSP providers are being asked to deliver greater value in addition to cost savings, by way of playing a greater role in the selection and ongoing management of this contingent talent.

Impact of Mobile Devices

Although technology has enabled the growing contingent workforce, could there be a downside to this level of connectivity? Overall, 79 percent of Talent Trends participants reported that keeping pace with rapidly evolving technology will be a challenge for them. While the impact of constant connectivity on productivity remains to be seen, employers may want to encourage their employees to take a device detox, by not checking email at night and on the weekends, or while they are on vacation.

"Technological advancements have created a new breed of worker that has more say than ever in where, when and how often they work," said Robert Lopes, president, Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) for Randstad Sourceright. "While this may present certain challenges for employers, it also opens new doors – as long as they can match the technology prowess of their employees and deliver the modern experiences they expect. Our latest Talent Trends results reveal where today's employers stand on the issue of the mobile workforce and how they can further change to meet the evolving needs across the talent landscape."
