Continental Makes Donations for Flood Victims in Serbia

€50,000 goes to relief organization Help • €11,000 supports the Serbian Red Cross • €10,000 of aid for Continental employees in Serbia

Continental is donating a total of around €70,000 for the flood victims in Serbia. The international automotive supplier, tire manufacturer, and industrial partner today gave €50,000 of this amount to relief organization Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe e.V. The association is organizing a fundraising campaign together with the German–Serbian Trade Association, the Delegation of the German Economy, the German Embassy in Serbia, and the Deutschland Serbien forum. "Continental has around 700 employees in Serbia. We therefore have close ties with the country and want to make a contribution toward its reconstruction," says Heinz-Gerhard Wente, member of the Continental AG Executive Board. In addition, employees and the management of the ContiTech plant in Subotica have donated approximately €11,000 to the Serbian Red Cross. A further €10,000 is going to the Continental employees personally affected by the flooding.

"Seven of our employees in Serbia have lost their homes as well as all of their belongings as a result of the floods," reports Dr. Danilo Vujosevic, general manager of the ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group in Serbia, which belongs to Continental. "The affected employees have received financial aid and in-kind donations, quickly and with minimal red tape, to help them rebuild their homes."

Continental operates two plants in Serbia: Conveyor belts for the mining sector are manufactured by Kolubara Univerzaal d.o.o. in Veliki Crljeni and hose lines for the automotive industry are produced by ContiTech Fluid Serbia d.o.o. in Subotica. Both locations were spared from any direct damage as a result of the flooding, which only caused a power failure and therefore production downtime in the conveyor belt plant.
