Konica Minolta and MOBOTIX on a strong path for growth together

Since Konica Minolta took over a majority share of the German manufacturer of intelligent video solutions MOBOTIX in 2016, the companies have been able to significantly grow their customer base and business. In Europe alone, the partnership already has more than 70 customers – and its plans are set on continuous expansion. In the 2019 financial year, it is planning a market presence in 21 countries across the continent with a dedicated sales force. Both companies aim at further driving their upward momentum in the security solutions business as well as developing and offering new intelligent video solutions that combine the expertise of both companies to the benefit of their customers.

“MOBOTIX is a strategic partner for Konica Minolta and we have seen very good progress with joint development during the past year, which is why it will be further expanded to develop innovative video technology even faster,” says Yuji Ichimura, senior executive officer of Konica Minolta. Funded by Konica Minolta, the companies are expanding their co-development activities, focusing on a new video/IoT platform. Operations are growing as well, as Konica Minolta is expanding its market activities to meet the increasing customer demand already coming from a broad range of industries such as manufacturing, logistics, transportation, healthcare, retail and hospitality.

“Beyond ensuring highest levels of security, our intelligent video solutions are helping our customers to significantly improve their processes, by monitoring and optimising their workflows and production for quality assurance,” explains Shintaro Inoue, Manager MOBOTIX Business, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe, citing an example: “For one of our customers, we document the inspection of an end product through one of our camera solutions. With cameras monitoring shipping as well, the company can check and document that the goods have been properly packaged and sent out without faults or missing parts. Should complaints arise, this can be verified.”

With such solutions, Konica Minolta and MOBOTIX are growing their portfolio. Projects are implemented after a thorough analysis and consultation phase with the customer to meet their specific needs. The solutions are also created to meet their data protection requirements, particularly with regard to GDPR, saving and overwriting stored information in compliance with this regulation. The Mx edge computing intelligent video camera is also certified by Syss accordingly. With the importance of cyber security on the rise, both companies ensure that their solutions meet the highest requirements, embedding them in an overall security approach if needed. This can encompass the operation of the entire system, including cameras, firewalls, switches and data storage, for example, leveraging Konica Minolta’s expertise and solutions in IT services and security.

Konica Minolta is the majority shareholder of MOBOTIX, having acquired approximately 65 percent of the company’s share capital in 2016. Joint forces in research and development continue to drive innovation in fields such as intelligent edge video systems that analyse movement patterns for security and efficiency purposes.
