tesa lays foundation stone for new plant in Vietnam

Group invests 55 million euros - completion in 2023

tesa is growing: The company has now laid the foundation stone for a new plant in the Vietnamese port city of Haiphong. On around 70,000 square metres, tesa will create new production capacities for Asia, one of the fastest growing markets. Around 40 million square metres of adhesive tape will be produced here each year. The company will thus increase its local presence and shorten the distance to customers and suppliers.

About 140 employees are planned for the operation in the first phase.
The laying of the foundation stone began with a traditional Buddhist ceremony.
Dr. Norman Goldberg, Chairman of the Executive Board of tesa SE, was digitally present at the event. In addition to the internal team, he thanked the authorities in Haiphong and the German ambassador, Dr. Guido Hildner, in particular for their great support.

"This laying of the foundation stone is an important milestone for us: the Asian adhesive tape market is recording a very dynamic development, which we will take advantage of," explains Goldberg. "The fact that tesa is making an investment of around 55 million euros in times of Corona is also a strong signal from the shareholders for the future."

"Access to markets, fast and flexible delivery to customers and the development of local raw materials are important factors in international competition," adds Stefan Schmidt, Head of tesa Supply Chain and Operation.
All of this will be ensured by the additional local capacities that will be created, he adds.

tesa currently operates 14 production facilities worldwide, including large plants in Germany (Hamburg, Offenburg), in Italy, in the USA, and in China.
The plant in Suzhou, China, has been in operation since 2005. tesa supplies high-tech tapes for electronic devices from Suzhou, for example, to bond components and displays in mobile phones and tablets.

More and more extremely important tesa customers are settling in Vietnam, for example from the electronics and automotive industries. Even in the first quarter of 2020, the country was able to increase its economic growth by 3.8 percent despite the global Corona crisis. Growth of as much as 6.5% is expected for 2022.
