The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for France increased 0.5 percent in July to 118.3 (2004 = 100), following no change in June, and a 0.2 percent decline in May.
At the same time, The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI) for France, a measure of current economic activity, was unchanged in July, remaining at 103.7 (2004 = 100), following a 0.2 percent increase in June, and a 0.1 percent decline in May.
The Conference Board LEI for France increased only marginally from the beginning of 2014, and while its six-month growth rate remains positive, it has slowed considerably compared to six months ago. Meanwhile, the CEI has been virtually unchanged for the past two years, and its six-month growth rate is slightly above zero. Taken together, the recent behavior of the composite indexes suggests that the pace of economic activity is likely to be subdued throughout the second half of this year.
