#frankfurtstreamt: 3 days virtual book fair with the bpb

In the digital edition of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2020, the Federal Agency for Civic Education/bpb presented interactive workshops, speed dating and live streams in #frankfurtstreamt format for three days from Wednesday to Friday. Many hours of programme and several thousand encounters in digital space, that's the balance of the Bonn educational institution's first purely virtual book fair.
One highlight of the programme was the long virtual reading night with more than 15 authors such as Luisa Neubauer, Andreas Kossert, Olga Gryasnova or Ali Can, during which all those interested were able to immerse themselves in the world of (political) literature. And there were always lively discussions, for example at the panel discussion "We are the bridge builders" with authors from Central Eastern Europe and numerous "bpb salons", where books from the bpb series were presented and discussed by the authors.
In addition, numerous encounters with citizens in the digital space took place. Thus, every day, visitors to the fair were able to talk to the bpb team and the teams from HanisauLand and euro|topics about what the bpb has to offer.
Finally, the trade fair special was particularly popular: a book box. The 1,000 copies available were sold out after only a few hours. Under the hashtag #bpbBook Fair, however, one or two (digital) extensions beyond the fair period can be expected after the boxes have arrived at the latest.
Thomas Krüger, President of the bpb, on the virtual fair: "Despite the great distance we have to be because of the Corona pandemic, a lot of meeting, exchange and discussion has been possible during the last three days. Political education and constructive discussions on political issues - and good political books - are therefore also possible online. This is important, especially in these times when there is sometimes no room for exchange".
