Finnish printer PunaMusta Oy will be the first heatset printer in the country with automation from Q.I. Press Controls (QIPC). The Dutch specialist for measuring and control devices for the printing industry will supply PunaMusta Oy with a color control system including register and cut-off register control. "A great opportunity to prove ourselves to PunaMusta Oy and other heatset printers in the Nordic region".
Good reputation
The existing automation on the Goss M600 press is outdated and no longer supported. PunaMusta Oy decided to expand the scope of the press when looking for a replacement and quickly found a new potential partner in QIPC. Juha Kankainen, managing director of JK Automation and QIPC's representative for Finland, played an important role in bringing the two companies together. "QIPC has a very good reputation in the printing industry," says Jari Avellán, Managing Director of PunaMusta Oy, when he explains why he started talking to QIPC. "A visit to a reference printing plant in the Netherlands was also very convincing".
Savings
The decision to equip the Goss M600 with the mRC-3D system from QIPC for color register and cut-off register control and IDS-3D for color control was quickly made. The QIPC systems will make the entire operation of the press, which mainly prints magazines and commercial products, more efficient. Jari Avellán: "With this new automation, we expect significant waste savings. Furthermore, we believe that the system will be more reliable and therefore we will have less downtime at the press".
First installation
The order from PunaMusta Oy is a first for QIPC, as it is the first heatset press in Finland to be equipped with QIPC systems. "PunaMusta Oy is the largest heatset printer in the country". Erwin van Rossem, Director of International Sales and Marketing at QIPC, is very pleased about the new cooperation. "Besides this press, the company has nine other heatset presses. So this first installation is a great opportunity for us to prove ourselves to PunaMusta Oy and other heatset printers in the Nordic region".
Installation
A total of seven mRC-3D cameras and two IDS-3D cameras will be installed on the Goss M600 press at the Joensuu facility in eastern Finland. The installation is scheduled to start in week 10 of 2020.
