Metsä Board's Kemi production plant receives FSSC-22000 certification for food safety

Metsä Board, Europe's leading manufacturer of premium fresh fibre board and a Metsä Group company, is pleased to announce that the food safety systems at its Kemi mill have recently been certified according to the FSSC 2000 standard for food safety. The certification documents that the production plant has taken extensive measures to ensure that the products provide the necessary safety for demanding end uses, such as direct food contact.

As Europe's leading producer of virgin fibre-based board, Metsä Board aims to ensure that its production meets the same standards as its customers in the food industry. Metsä Board already has an ISO 22000 food safety system in place at all its production sites, and the FSSC 2000 system has now been implemented at the Simpele, Kyro, Äänekoski, Husum and Kemi plants.
"Our customers in the food industry are certified according to FSSC 22000 or comparable standards. It is therefore important that the board grades they use for their packaging meet the same strict standards. This is the only way to ensure an uninterrupted food safety chain," says Marjatta Punkka, Product Safety Manager at Metsä Board.
FSSC 22000 is a standard recognised by GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative). It defines a comprehensive food safety system that meets the needs of the company's customers and consumers. The GFSI-recognised standards enable the food industry to ensure food safety worldwide.
