hubergroup launches sheetfed offset ink series for direct food contact

Even more creative packaging and more space for information - this is what hubergroup Print Solutions makes possible with the new MGA CONTACT sheet-fed offset ink series. Thanks to carefully selected raw materials, the ink series is suitable for reliable printing on the inside of food packaging made of paper and board.

Together with the matching dispersion varnish from hubergroup, MGA CONTACT is allowed to be in direct contact with the food, so no functional barriers are necessary. The colour gamut and colour fastness of the globally available ink series are comparable to those of conventional offset inks.
"With MGA CONTACT, brand owners and packaging designers now have twice as much space for their messages and information. Packaging for fruit, vegetables or chocolates can be made even more attractive as a result," explains Josef Sutter, Product Manager Sheetfed/UV Europe at hubergroup. This is possible because the ink specialist only uses ingredients for the ink series that are permitted for direct contact with foodstuffs according to EU specifications and FDA criteria, and produces the ink series in a separate production facility at its plant in Celle, Germany.
MGA CONTACT achieves the same process stability in printing as other MGA ink series, so no adjustments are necessary for printers. The ink series then only needs to be coated with an aqueous varnish that is also suitable for direct food contact. For this purpose, hubergroup recommends products from its ACRYLAC DFC (Direct Food Contact) series.
Manufacturers can give free rein to their creativity when designing their packaging, because MGA CONTACT has good colour fastness and covers a wide colour gamut as an ECG (Extended Colour Gamut) series. Thanks to a sustainable formulation, the ink series is also easy to recycle.
