Ricoh multifunctional systems pass Keypoint Intelligence's demanding security test

Ricoh's IM Series Multifunctional Systems have successfully undergone a new intensive security testing programme by Keypoint Intelligence - Buyers Lab, a leading research and testing laboratory for office systems.

The programme, which focuses on networked MFPs and printers, sets industry standard benchmarks for device security, policy compliance and firmware resistance. The program also includes field tests conducted in collaboration with recognized security testing companies.

During the two-year development phase of the program, Keypoint Intelligence sought input from leading document imaging OEMs, including Ricoh. The result is a three-step test suite that examines the security of various vectors to ensure that systems are protected against vulnerabilities. The firmware used in Ricoh's IM series intelligent systems has successfully passed the security program's penetration test.

Jamie Bsales, Director, Solutions & Security Analysis, Keypoint Intelligence, said: "Ricoh's participation in the security test confirms that the product security that the company is committed to ensuring its customers receive is of paramount importance. This first round of testing was very extensive and included both automated and manual hacking attempts to gain access to the systems and test network. The real-world penetration tests confirm that the current firmware of Ricoh's IM series systems has appropriate security mechanisms and settings to protect them against external attacks.

Olivier Vriesendorp, Vice President of Product Marketing, Ricoh Europe, adds: "Passing such a rigorous test on a business-critical issue is proof of the importance we attach to information security. Securing our customers' operations with reliable, powerful and secure systems allows them to focus on their core business.
