Tórculo continues digital transformation with Spain’s first Ricoh Pro VC70000 digital colour continuous feed press

Spanish graphic communications specialist takes next step in its service evolution
Spanish graphic communications specialist Tórculo has taken the next step in its service evolution with investment in the country’s first Ricoh Pro VC70000 high speed inkjet colour continuous feed press.

The operation, which was established 40 years ago, chose the Pro VC70000 to expand its target markets, provide a wider range of services for its current clients and reduce the cost of responsive book printing. The move will also improve its production processes and develop its trade service offering. The Pro VC70000 will enable Tórculo to adapt to accelerating key market trends including shorter runs and tighter deadlines, while supporting its fully automated workflow to help publishers manage their library of titles and order reprints. It will also give Tórculo the confidence to update its value propositions and structure its approach to capture new business in key target markets such as publishing and commercial print.
Jacobo Bermejo, president of Tórculo, liked the press’s combination of pioneering technologies including its near to offset quality, high productivity both on coated and uncoated paper without the need of a primer, and ability to batch and nest work for maximum efficiency. He was also keen to make the most of the advice and guidance delivered using the EDGE process, Ricoh’s business development consultancy service.
He explains: “The market requires faster production of shorter runs with variability and customisation. Those are the strengths of digital printing. The technology has matured a lot in a short time and now meets our requirements. The Ricoh Pro VC70000 is unique in today’s market for its ability to work with offset and coated paper alike and that will allow us to deliver a greater variety of applications. We can tackle market spaces that until now were very difficult or elusive. We were also impressed by Ricoh’s commitment to our business. Our sales and marketing team is already working with Ricoh on a development programme to ensure we maximise the opportunities the investment offers.”
The Pro VC70000 joins a five colour Ricoh Pro™ C7200x digital sheetfed press producing ultra short run jobs. Jacobo adds: “We were looking for a partner and Ricoh has proven to be a very reliable and committed one, not only from a technological point of view but also in business development areas. This is very important for us as this is a huge investment for a mid-size company like Tórculo. Ricoh understands this and brings not only technology but also knowledge sharing and support in many areas like sales, communications, targeting, workflow and so on. The Ricoh team has reinforced ours.”
Sander Sondaal, Director, Commercial Print Sales, Graphic Communications Group, Ricoh Europe, comments: “Tórculo enthusiastically embraces transformation and new market opportunities, particularly in book printing where run lengths are increasingly varied. We are delighted that Ricoh and the Pro VC70000 have been identified as essential elements in its future evolution. It is a testament to our commitment to client growth both in terms of the systems and solutions we offer as well as the support we provide.”
