Educational Displays for Smart Learning

How are people using their IT devices? There are many different things that can be done on the display such as managing schedules, taking pictures or finances. These days, the importance of smart devices such as smartphones and tablet is increasing in education as well. It is becoming less common to see students at university using traditional tools like pen and paper to take notes. Let's take an in-depth look at smart learning and smart displays.

Changes in Smart Education

As display technology is changing, the education market is also quickly transitioning. It has only been a few years since we have become accustomed to the concept of finding information on smartphones and using tablets. Shall we clarify how the history of smart learning has progressed?

Step 1: Traditional classes, passive listening and familiarization
Education in the past offered nothing more than basic classes. The structure that we are all familiar with is a format where the teacher teaches and the students just listen. This education structure is still being practiced and is a common sight today.

Step 2: TV broadcasts, make education standards higher
TVs then became commonplace in the home and educational broadcasting began to expand. The PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) in the US began to broadcast programming on educational topics such as math, history and geography and became a source of educational broadcasting that raised the standards of education.

Step 3: PC education, education became available without being limited to specific times
Computers and the Internet made a wide range of lectures available. Education became more convenient as data needed for studying could then be found online at any time.

Step 4: Mobile smart device education, even the limits of space are overcome
Mobile smart device capabilities have expanded from audio to video. Likewise, the online education market has also markedly increased. Users are able to listen to famous guest speakers through online broadcasts sites like ted.com and have the opportunity to receive an education through sites such as 'courser' and 'edx' offered through universities.

Turn on, listen and grasp mobile smart device education

The emergence of smart devices and tablet delivers a rapid change in smart learning. Not only is hardware of devices continuing to develop but educational content is also being released for mobile displays. As we all know, educational applications for mobile devices are consistently being released on application sources from application creators besides Google and Apple. There is no longer the need for a PC in order to access smart education content.

Accordingly, there are also many changes happening in the world of educational facilities. The city of Chicago, with over 200 public schools, has spent USD 450,000 on 32 iPads to each of 23 schools and issued iTunes coupons for educational applications. At 6 schools in 4 cities in California, they are teaching Algebra for the first time using only iPads. It is expected that there will be more and more of these types of examples as mobile device use increases around the world.

Smart learning and displays

One of the advantages to smart learning is the bilateral feedback capabilities available while studying alone. As an example, let's look at the US foreign language education application Duolingo. Users can take a test to ascertain their proficiency in a selected language and then be placed in the appropriate level. Problems are not just presented in multiple-choice format. With the use of the smart device speaker, users can also test their listening and pronunciation using the application. Users do not simply listen as in a traditional classroom, but can experience conversational classes as well.

Offline classes are also being successfully offered through smart devices as well. The most recent smart learning item is the 'digital blackboard'. LG Display has made a 84-inch Ultra HD digital balckboard for classroom and business applications. This display completely replaces the existing analog electric blackboard and is an impressive 1.9m long and 1.1m high.

The display can be seen clearly and vividly even on a bright day or in bright light and the data on the screen can be seen legibly even if the lecturer's shadow is cast onto it. With only one digital blackboard, there is no need to have different projectors for multiple presentations.

An LG Display panel with IPS goes into each of these digital blackboards. LG Display's IPS panels provide maximum image quality with a rich color saturation and wide field of view.

It is extremely important that a digital blackboard have a wide field of view so that all students can see the screen clearly. The IPS panel field of view has received excellent rating in 3 indexes for Color Shift, Viewability and Gamma Distortion Ratio. We can also see customer satisfaction in image quality, response time and touch capabilities from product reviews.

IPS display technology is also advantageous in large-scale high-resolution commercial displays. The main advantage in this field is that there is very little change or disptortions in the color and shading in a wide field of view. IPS technology has such excellent color accuracy that there is no distortion to the image quality or color in the display. Viewers can see the true image from any angle. The technology offers stable image quality with can be used for various commercial display applications.

Smart educational displays for improved teamwork and diverse multimedia

What about the smart education of the future? The product featured in the video above is the Microsoft Surface Hub. Information can be shared through the Surface Hub, which allows anyone to grab the pen and express their ides. Ideas expressed on the Surface Hub can then be transmitted to smart devices so they can be referenced later.

Though the video was set in a business scenario, couldn't this also be implemented in our children's' education? Smart displays will certainly push us forward in expressing our thoughts and creating ideas in group presentation.
