Akamai Innovations at 2015 NAB Show to Focus on Transforming Quality Viewing Experiences

Addressing shifts in content consumption habits and distribution models, Akamai innovations, product demonstrations, speaking engagements and partner presentations to underscore commitment to delivering highest-possible quality video to broadcast-size audiences across connected devices anytime, anywhere

Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the global leader in content delivery network (CDN) services, today highlighted the scope of its planned participation in the 2015 NAB Show, taking place April 11-16 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). From demonstrations and presentations at its NAB booth (SL3325) to participation in various conference panels and partner exhibits, Akamai will showcase its media delivery solutions designed to help content providers take advantage of emerging TV business models while meeting the escalating consumer demand for more video at higher levels of quality across an increasingly complex array of platforms and viewing devices.

Technology and innovation demonstrations at Akamai's booth will focus on:

Client-assisted video delivery that shows how Akamai software can run on connected devices such as smartphones and tablets as well as gateways and other in-home hardware to help address the challenges driven by growing consumer demand for video at higher quality.
Cellular delivery capabilities, including Predictive Video over Cellular and Throughput Guidance – Mobile ABR, demonstrate predictive content prepositioning onto mobile devices as well as placement of Akamai edge delivery intelligence into cell tower locations.
Media delivery workflow solutions offering content providers a range of live and on-demand online video delivery tools such as cloud-based transcoding, support for server-side ad insertion, digital rights management, storage, analytics and media player, all leveraging the reach and scale of Akamai's global CDN to serve content at the highest-possible quality to any device, anywhere.
Live 4K video encoded using HEVC and formatted for MPEG-DASH streaming from Europe to Las Vegas.
Akamai Cloud Security and Web Performance solutions, which complement Akamai's Media Delivery solutions with high-performing site protection delivery tools and services that help defend against malicious traffic and optimize websites across devices.
Throughout NAB, Akamai subject matter experts along with representatives from a variety of its digital media ecosystem partners will conduct presentations in the theater section of the booth. The most up-to-date schedule will be posted on site at the Akamai booth.

Shawn Michels, Senior Product Manager at Akamai, will participate in workshop presented by Irdeto that is designed to help network operators and content owners understand how to manage multiscreen OTT video service deployment for the long term, to minimize TCO while maximizing scalability and flexibility.

Streaming HD Sports Video to Second Screens via Cloud

Will Law, Akamai's Chief Architect, Media Engineering, will discuss how sports broadcasters can leverage the cloud to broadcast live events in radically new ways as part of NAB's Media Management in the Cloud Conference.

Online Video Next: Exploring the Big Trends

As part of the closing session of the NAB Online Video Conference, John Bishop, Akamai's CTO for Media, will examine the big trends that are expected to power the industry over the next five years.
