Digital Displays Promote Business and Safety at FL Rest Areas

Dynamic digital signage will greet Florida tourists at Florida's 57 welcome centers and rest areas to provide information on traffic & weather alerts, as well as accommodations, restaurants, attractions and more.

"The 57 Florida welcome centers and rest areas are estimated to have 62 million annual views of its Elektrosign digital displays," said Rick L. Perry, Elektrobase Chief Marketing Officer. Perry continued, "The Florida welcome centers and rest areas generally have four 32" display systems dedicated to promote businesses and safety, which is of interest to the motoring public."

As a public service, Elektrobase has provided 112 Elektrosign digital display systems at the Florida rest areas for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to inform visitors. The web-based digital signage system dedicated to safety is managed by FDOT and provides instant updates and information to the motoring public on road, weather, traffic and Amber alerts.

Perry continued, "The dynamic digital signage for businesses will promote Florida restaurants, hotels, attractions, and destinations among other areas of business."

According to the US Census, Florida is the fourth largest U.S. State with a 2013 population of 19.32 million. Visit Florida (Florida's tourism marketing corporation) reported 89.3 million visitors came to Florida in 2012; and 11.5 million Florida residents made in-state pleasure trips.

Michael Etchieson, CFO of Elektrobase added, "Most of the rest areas including all four of Florida's welcome centers are currently live with digital signage." Visit Florida reported more than 1 million people are employed in tourism-based businesses in Florida; and total tourism spending in 2012 was $71.8 billion. According to Etchieson the remaining rest areas will receive digital signage this Fall and in early 2014. "We are pleased to work with the Florida Department of Transportation on the installation of our digital signage and providing Florida's rest areas with Internet capability for the motoring public," said Etchieson. Etchieson is the former corporate President and owner of Signs Now Corporation in Bradenton, Florida.

Additionally Elektrobase announced that it will be providing the Florida motoring public 20 minutes of free WiFi at the 4 welcome centers and 53 rest areas, along with opportunities for companies to promote and brand their products and services with a short video or banner ad upon log-in.
