In mid-February this year, Polish print shop ERBI in Lodz took its new Diana X 80 folding carton gluing machine from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) into operation. Incorporating both Diana Inspection Control and Diana Braille modules, it is one of the best equipped Diana X 80 machines in Poland. ERBI uses the full-area blank checking and Braille applications for pharmaceutical packaging and inserts. Maximum reliability in production and top quality are particularly important in the pharmaceutical sector. "We specialize in production for the pharmaceutical industry and need state-of-the-art machines to meet its high demands," explains ERBI owner Jakub Bielecki. "We and our highly qualified employees have been working with all the big names in the sector for years," he adds. Over 70 percent of production is exported and the error rate last year was just 0.127 percent. Founded in 1993, ERBI now has a production area of 3,000 square meters and over 70 employees working in three-shift operation. Every year, it produces over 280 million packaging items and more than 100 million inserts. ERBI is a full-service print shop and uses a Suprasetter 75A CtP platesetter for prepress operations. The pressroom includes a Speedmaster CD 74 five-color press with coating unit and a Printmaster GTO 52 two-color machine. In addition to the new Diana X 80, the print shop's postpress section boasts an Easygluer 100 folding carton gluing machine, a Varimatrix 105 CS die cutter, and the Polar N 115 Plus cutting system.
ERBI considers sustainable production to be extremely important. The company is certified to ISO 14001, its equipment benefits from alcohol-free production, and all waste - such as paper, chemicals, and leftover ink - is recycled or disposed of appropriately. "We're proud of the innovative equipment that makes us a reference customer for Heidelberg in folding carton production in the pharmaceutical sector," says Bielecki.

The Diana X 80 is primarily designed for processing challenging pharmaceutical packaging and is suitable for all standard packaging, including straightline, lockbottom, and four-corner cartons. Thanks to its modular design, the machine can be customized for the relevant production requirements and is extremely versatile. The Diana X 80 impresses with its short makeready times, excellent productivity, and cost-effective top-quality production.
The modular design is based on end-to-end servo drive technology. Separate drives enable further components or add-ons to be integrated as required. ERBI's machine configuration includes the Diana Inspection Control module, which helps ensure consistently high production quality by enabling the entire area of the blank to be checked, and the Diana Braille module for Braille applications.

Polish folding carton print shops are increasingly using postpress equipment from Heidelberg. ERBI's Diana X 80 is the tenth folding carton gluing machine of this model to be installed in Poland in as many years. What's more, seven Easygluer folding carton gluing machines, eight Dymatrix die cutters, and 14 Varimatrix die cutters have also been installed over the same period.
