Thimm Group sets investment focus in Wörrstadt: new gluing centre for packaging planned

The family-owned company Thimm is investing six million euros in the Wörrstadt site by 2023. The installation of three folding box gluers with associated peripherals is planned.

In this way, the expansion of the product portfolio to include sustainable e-commerce packaging and special packaging with high-quality digital, flexo and offset printing as well as merchandise-carrying sales displays will be implemented. In addition, the pre-press department will be significantly expanded and more closely networked within the Thimm Group.
The Thimm Group, headquartered in Northeim, Lower Saxony, and with 21 locations in Europe, continues to invest in Wörrstadt: a new gluing centre for packaging is being built in the production plant. Michael Weber, Head of Corporate Strategy + Marketing informs: "We are pleased that the construction of the gluing centre in Wörrstadt is now picking up speed. The first folder gluer with an additional unit will be installed in the third quarter. The associated peripheral work is already underway. Another new machine with a downstream power packer and a palletising robot have been ordered and are expected to be installed in the second quarter of 2022. In perspective, we have planned for a third new machine in 2023."
The new machinery complements the existing gluing machines at the Carl-Benz-Strasse site. Until the end of last year, mainly sales displays and decorations made of corrugated board were produced here. Since then, the path to the expanded portfolio has been paved: "Our Wörrstadt location is currently developing from a pure display producer to a leading manufacturer of e-commerce packaging and goods-carrying sales displays. This makes Wörrstadt an important long-term building block in the strategic planning of our entire group of companies," adds Weber.
At the same time, the new "Prepress & Print Solutions" department is currently creating a central interface for data management, prepress and printing in the Thimm Group. Weber comments: "This new department represents a key function within the Thimm Group. With our cross-location teams, we also ensure the ongoing development of the digital workflow from Wörrstadt using future-oriented technologies. This is a central component of the digitalisation strategy of our corporate group. The workflow enables us to react flexibly to customer requirements and thus to be the benchmark. Our prepress experts from Wörrstadt are an elementary part of this team." The aim is to make prepress faster and more flexible, creating added value for customers and Thimm alike.
Weber concludes: "At the moment we are looking for motivated employees who would like to actively shape our company development in Wörrstadt. We have vacancies in production, sales and purchasing. We also continue to pay special attention to the sound training of young people and are constantly developing our training concept. There are still industrial apprenticeship positions available in Wörrstadt this year."
