MultiCam targets growth after first successful year as part of Kongsberg PCS

"With its range of CNC cutters, laser, plasma, waterjet and knife cutting machines, MultiCam has exceptional market reach. The acquisition of the company allowed us to come together to drive world-class cutting and finishing processes, and we look forward to building on the success of this first year and providing a tremendous advantage to our global customer base." - Stuart Fox, President and CEO of Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems

It has been an eventful 12 months since Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems (Kongsberg PCS) acquired MultiCam, Inc, the American manufacturer and distributor of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) cutting machines and digital finishing processes.
"When the deal was announced, we said we were excited to develop and expand the product portfolio and create new opportunities to expand our tooling and consumable offerings," said Stuart Fox, president and CEO of Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems. "That's exactly what we've done. Over the past year, we have not only strengthened our hardware offering, but also entered new markets in areas that were not previously served and can now benefit from our market-leading solutions. We have achieved one of our most important goals by ensuring that our customers not only have the right machine for the job, but also get the best out of that machine."
Kongsberg PCS acquired MultiCam in 2021, expanding the company's market reach and customer base in North America and Europe. In doing so, the company became the world's first diversified supplier of digital finishing and CNC cutting machines. In May this year, Matt Thackray was appointed Vice President/General Manager of the Americas operations.
"We were very pleased to be able to demonstrate our market-leading machines at this year's PRINTING United Expo in Las Vegas," said Matt Thackray, who is responsible for managing the company's trade, service support and financial performance in the US, Canada, Latin America and South America. "We delivered an impressive Super Booth experience at the show with two adjacent stands from which we demonstrated both our market-leading range of Kongsberg digital finishing tables and our MultiCam CNC machines."
"Alongside our MultiCam Apex 3R CNC cutter and the smaller Apex 1R, we are using PRINTING United to showcase our latest innovation in the Celero 4 Digital Cutting System range. The Celero 4 flatbed cutting plotter and router is specifically designed for graphics, POS display and packaging applications," he said. "The large format capabilities offer businesses new application possibilities as the Celero can cut up to a 10-ft roll or two 53-inch rolls side-by-side."
Matt Thackray said that following the acquisition by Kongsberg PCS, the company had focused on building bridges within the organisation. "It is important to us that we build a single company with a common culture based on the heritage of both the Kongsberg and MultiCam brands," he commented. "Having brought together the synergies and standard processes, we are now trying to capture as much of the market as possible."
To this end, the MultiCam team recently attended FABTECH, where they showcased their range of solutions for all tasks and materials, from CNC routers and digital finishing to plasma, waterjet and laser cutting. "We used FABTECH to highlight some of our new innovations," said Matt Thackray , "such as the Hypertherm XPR170, which expands the plasma capabilities and possibilities of our 3000 Series CNC Plasma Table and delivers next-generation X-Definition™ processes from very thin to mid-thickness."
Demonstrations at North America's largest metal forming, fabrication, welding and finishing event showcased the performance, simplicity and accuracy of MultiCam machines in cutting and routing a range of metals and other materials, including acrylic, aluminium, sign foam/precision sheet, canvas and PVC.
Chris Rogers, International Sales Manager for MultiCam, said, "With our distribution partners around the world ensuring that Kongsberg PCS customers can now access Multicam technology, we are enabling our customers to produce the highest quality products faster, safer and more efficiently, while maximising their potential for creativity, sustainability and profitability.
"Automation, ease of use and connectivity are very important to our customers. By merging technology and creativity, we deliver the solutions they need to meet today's and tomorrow's challenges," said Chris Rogers.
Stuart Fox told the audience that the year since Kongsberg PCS' acquisition of MultiCam had been an exceptional one, and that the company was now looking forward to realising its growth ambitions in 2023.
"We aim to empower our customers, inspire creativity and drive innovation with best-in-class digital cutting solutions worldwide," said Stuart Fox. "We are driven by our customers' success and committed to their future growth. That's why we always want to provide them with market-leading products and services and build long-term trusted relationships with them."
