FAM Ti Canada has purchased an EXPERT K5 2450mm incorporating a number of BOBST unique features including AluBond, the largest coating drum in the industry at 700mm and a high rate source. The machine is due to be delivered to FAM Ti’s new production site in Greater Toronto Area, Ontario by the end of the year and once installed will be the only EXPERT K5 producing BOBST AluBond film in North America.
FAM Ti Canada is a leading provider of sustainable flexible packaging solutions and a distributor of a variety of film types including BOPP, BOPET and CPP films and has a good reputation both in domestic and international markets. The company is currently undergoing aggressive expansion and has opened its first manufacturing unit which will have slitters alongside the new metallizer to offer added value products to its customers.
When looking for their first metallizer, the company required a platform which offers high productivity and quality, as well as versatility to be able to run a variety of films. The machine will be used for metallization of a range of film types including polyolefins; the EXPERT has a number of features designed specifically to provide careful handling of heat sensitive polymers. Additionally, the high rate source gives improved coating uniformity and the large 700mm diameter coating drum results in a 20% wider coating window meaning less aluminium consumption, lower production costs and high productivity.
BOBST AluBond® which was initially developed to increase metal adhesion and dyne level on the most commonly used film substrates is now fast becoming the standard metallizing process for polyolefin based PP substrates due to its ability to increase barrier levels on these film types.
The addition of the EXPERT K5 with AluBond means FAM Ti will be in a unique position within the North American market to offer converters metallization of polyolefins with high barrier levels for their packaging whilst also assisting them in the development of mono-material sustainable solutions which is a hot topic in the market today.
