Strategic partnership: Schreiner MediPharm and PragmatIC cooperate on smart pharmaceutical labels

The new, smart pharmaceutical labels from Schreiner MediPharm and PragmatIC are suitable, for example, for primary packaging and devices.

Schreiner MediPharm, a specialist in innovative functional labels for the pharmaceutical industry, and PragmatIC, a leading global supplier of flexible, cost-effective electronics, will work together as strategic partners in the future. The aim of the cooperation is to offer manufacturers of pharmaceutical products and medical devices a broader portfolio of cost-efficient smart labels.

The special feature of the new RFID labels is the chip made of flexible electronics that is integrated into the functional labels of Schreiner MediPharm. Unlike conventional silicone chips, the chips from PragmatIC's ConnectIC® family are extremely thin and flexible and can be embedded in various substrates. This makes the solution particularly suitable for small vessels with very narrow radii, such as small vials and syringes.

With RFID technology integrated into labels, products or pharmaceuticals can be uniquely identified, traced and authenticated according to the key-lock principle. "Up to now, classic RFID/NFC solutions have been more interesting for higher-priced applications. Thanks to the cooperation with PragmatIC, we can now offer smart pharmaceutical labels with attractive prices for high volumes and low-cost drugs," says Dr. Thomas Schweizer, CEO of Schreiner MediPharm. Like all solutions from Schreiner MediPharm, the labels are customized to the respective primary container, packaging or device in order to improve user convenience and security.

"Schreiner MediPharm's label and industry expertise combined with our products can accelerate the deployment of RFID-based digital solutions in healthcare," comments Scott White, CEO of PragmatIC. "We look forward to the acceptance of our technology by leading global suppliers such as Schreiner MediPharm and to working closely with them to develop new applications for their products".
