Etiket Schiller: Two new papers extend the range of compostable materials

Eco-friendly labels complement fully biodegradable packaging

Etiket Schiller is further expanding its range of environmentally friendly labels: New in the portfolio are two compostable adhesive laminates for paper labels. The paper as well as the adhesive are certified according to DIN EN 13432 and bear the compostability mark Keimling. The self-adhesive labels can be applied directly to foodstuffs such as fruit and vegetables. Etiket Schiller is thus consistently pursuing its comprehensive sustainability concept and strengthening its position as a supplier of sustainable labels.

Eco-friendly labelling: two new label materials
With immediate effect, Etiket Schiller is offering compostable self-adhesive paper labels in two versions: as glossy coated adhesive label paper with PEFC certification and as thermal paper in eco quality with FSC seal. In combination with compostable adhesives, they are suitable for direct contact with dry, non-fatty food and for packaging that is to be completely biodegradable. The new paper labels thus complement the selection of sustainable materials at Etiket Schiller. The company from Plüderhausen also already offers biodegradable films.
Tested compostability: DIN EN 13432 and seedling
Both label materials are certified according to DIN EN 13432 and are industrially compostable. In order to comply with the internationally recognised standard, the labels must be demonstrably decomposed after three months. Certification according to DIN EN 13432 thus ensures that the product is biodegradable. The label material also bears the certification mark Keimling des European Bioplastics e. V., which can be awarded on the basis of the DIN EN 13432 standard.
Compostable labels: individual advice
Etiket Schiller has specialised in the processing of sustainable labels since 2016. Since then, compostable materials have also been an integral part of the product range. Etiket Schiller advises interested parties in detail on this subject and draws on a wealth of experience. Gunther Schiller, Managing Director of Etiket Schiller, explains: "In recent years, we have intensively dealt with sustainable labels based on a wide variety of materials. One of the biggest challenges is the appealing design of biodegradable labels in the context of compostability. We pass this know-how on to our customers in order to provide them with the best possible advice and support on the subject of green packaging".
Due to legal requirements for the printing of compostable paper labels, customers should consult the experts at Etiket Schiller in advance. Full-surface printing is not advisable and no more than five colours may be used for the print image.
