Greater road safety and securely registered vehicles - these were the main reasons why the authorities in Kosovo decided to introduce the Third License Plate. The complete solution by Schreiner PrinTrust and its Kosovar partner convinced the competition and was successfully introduced in spring.
The advantages of a third number plate are obvious: in contrast to the classic number plates made of metal, the third number plate is attached to the inside of the windscreen. The label is thus not only protected against theft, but also against manipulation and forgery thanks to sophisticated security features such as guilloches, optically variable colour and a hologram. The self-adhesive label bears the vehicle data issued by the registration authority and is thus protected against unauthorised use by strangers. Another plus point is the annually changing colour: it shows the valid insurance status at a glance - a practice that has already proven successful with vignettes.
The personalisation and issuing of the Third License Plates is carried out by the Kosovar partner at a total of 37 issuing points in the country. A network that ensures nationwide coverage.
The biggest motivation for implementing the project was the unregistered vehicles in Kosovo. Currently, the number is estimated at over 200,000, which causes enormous economic damage. The Third License Plate now helps the police to identify vehicles without registration and without insurance easily and quickly, thus drastically increasing road safety.
