Sustainable! Digital! Print!

The label is the figurehead and the first contact of a product with the customer. That's why sustainable, flexible production of high-quality labels is more important than ever for every trading company today. Thanks to modern label printers, it is possible to produce individual receipts in-house, with piece count accuracy, in just one work step - saving time, money and reducing production waste.

The use of such printers also avoids errors that can occur with handwritten labels, because with digital printing all information such as customer name, delivery address and additional information on the delivery is always clearly legible.

For these reasons, a selection of digital ColorWorks label printers will be the focus of the Epson presentation at BIOFACH 2022. With these devices, food and cosmetics manufacturers and retailers of all sizes can produce durable, smudge-proof, waterproof and light-resistant colour labels that also comply with the GHS standard (BS5609-certified) and can therefore be used for cosmetics, for example. The inks used also have various certifications for contact with food. Epson ColorWorks systems print on a variety of different media surfaces and formats and offer the option of printing individual data in one step. In addition, interested trade visitors to the Epson stand will see a real-life application of a TM-L100 liner-free label printer printing live self-adhesive, removable receipts for takeaway bags, cups and boxes.

Trade show novelty:

Epson ColorWorks C4000e colour label printer with scales and label design software

The labels to be printed are designed with a design software on the iPad and supplemented with individual, variable data, such as weight, via the connected scales and then transmitted wirelessly to the ColorWorks C4000e colour label printer. At the same time, additional variable data such as expiry date, serial number or origin information can be added to the up to 108 mm wide photo-realistic print (with up to 1,200 x 1,200 dpi resolution), creating an individual, durable label in no time at all. The ColorWorks C4000e supports advanced colour management, so businesses can produce colour-accurate prints of logos, for example. An automatic paper cutter enables the production of flexible label formats and completes the overall package of this compact, easy-to-use printer.

ColorWorks C6500Pe

The C6500Pe is a versatile colour label printer that prints photo-quality labels up to 8 inches (211.9 mm) wide. This device is suitable for medium and high volume production at a print speed of up to 119.5 mm/s. The model variant with peeler shown at the fair enables automatic removal of the label liner, making it suitable for manual or automatic print & apply applications. At BIOFACH, it will be shown how bottle labels are printed and then automatically applied.

ColorWorks C7500 colour label printer

The ColorWorks C7500 is an industrial label printer with large capacity single cartridges, permanent print head and high reliability. It is suitable for medium and long run printing and achieves very good print quality at print speeds of up to 300 mm/s. The C7500 also allows individual information to be printed on the label in one step.

All Epson ColorWorks printers are based on PrecisionCore printing technology, which is particularly energy-efficient.

Epson TM-L100 liner-free receipt and label printer

Also on display on the Epson stand is an application in which a TM-L100 liner-free label printer prints removable self-adhesive receipts for paper bags, coffee cups and boxes. Thanks to the use of the TM-L100, users avoid the plastic waste usually generated during the production of labels. An integrated removal sensor, which detects the detachment of the label that has just been printed, automatically starts printing the next label - saving time during processing. The TM-L100 also handles a variety of media, including semi-permanent labels. Another environmentally friendly feature of the printer is its paper-saving function - this also reduces waste.

Sustainability is part of the company philosophy

For the globally active technology group Epson, sustainable business is the continuation of a long-standing commitment to the environment and society that stems from the company's Japanese roots. Sustainability is part of Epson's DNA and deeply embedded in its management philosophy. This includes paying attention to every aspect of the organisation. This includes ensuring that products are only manufactured in Epson's own factories. This is the only way to ensure that high environmental, labour and social standards are maintained during production.

To counteract climate change, Epson developed its "Environmental Vision 2050" in 2008 as a long-term guideline for environmental measures. Epson considers the entire manufacturing chain in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, for example.

In 2020, Epson successfully aligned its business activities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This underlines the company's commitment to the 2016 Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

This commitment is officially evidenced by the EcoVadis ranking. After achieving gold three times in previous years, Epson has achieved EcoVadis Platinum status this year. This status, newly introduced in 2020, shows that Epson is among the top 1% of companies in the industry. The company thus meets the highest standards for human rights, working conditions, the environment, ethics and sustainable procurement.
