Wallpaper trends: 2020 will be the wallpaper year

Whether it's a place of longing or a style companion: no one can get past wallpaper this year

At the Heimtextil fair in Frankfurt (7-10 January 2019), manufacturers will present the wallpaper collections 2020. The trend is that the new designs express our desires and, in their diversity, leave plenty of room for individuality and creativity: Nature, distant worlds, past eras - with wallpapers we create our own ideal world. This can be with the help of a single photo wallpaper or by means of completely wallpapered rooms made of a mixture of pattern and plain wallpaper. The decisive factor is that our own home gives us a feeling of security and safety.
New shades: last year's trend colour coral is also very popular this year. It is only slightly softer and is combined with beige or black and white. In addition to the trendy earth, sand and natural tones, exciting blue-green combinations are being added: classic blue, ice blue, stonewashed indigo, smoky blue, petrol, sage, emerald green and frozen green.
Welcome to paradise
It will be paradise at home! Colourful collections transform our rooms into exotic jungles and let us dive into another world. Parrots, tropical leaves, strong colours and ethnic patterns decorate the new, young wallpapers. Extraordinary structures that look like cork or sugar cane are as authentic as the colour spectrum: from earthy colours and many different shades of green to tropical, light red or yellow spots of colour in the shape of flowers. Those who don't like it quite so wild will find filigree, even patterns, for example in warm red tones. The trend is mystical with oriental-looking flora in light pastel colours or even more reduced in black and white. This is a quick and easy way to bring Indonesian island life, an Amazonian atmosphere or Japanese flair home - and all without any jet lag. In need of harmony
The colder the world outside, the greater our need for harmony and a reliable basis. Whether in a condominium or a rented apartment: wallpapers with discreet patterns or in restrained colours are a must for everyone who wants to retreat and arrive home! The theme of harmony can be interpreted individually. For some, it is clear, geographic patterns in subtle shades of grey that underline the purist interior style. For the other, filigree floral decors in fresh green tones bring the necessary lightness and carefreeness into everyday life. Because the more we become alienated from nature, the greater the desire to take it home. The new wallpapers in the current "Classic Blue", the Pantone colour of the year 2020, also fit in with this (Photos: DTI/Erismann, Bali; DTI/A.S. Création, NewWalls)
Classic meets elegance
Wallpaper radiates a high level of living comfort by itself. If it comes with constructive, contrasting shapes or in noble shades such as rosé or anthracite with a little gold, the classic wall covering appears modern and elegant. Large, dynamic motifs such as waves bring a touch of retro. In harmonious, dark and metallic colour gradients, they provide glamour in your own four walls. The main thing is unusual
Artistic forms and motifs today do not come as paintings, but as wallpaper on the wall. Patinated structures with effective matt and glossy surfaces as well as optical and haptic extravagance provide for real wow experiences. Particularly large rooms with high ceilings, as can be found in old buildings, can tolerate such an effect. But also in terraced houses, the special can move in, for example unique wallpaper with oxidized iron surface, wall paintings or extravagant carnivore motives with noble applications.
