Magna Powertrain expands its fleet with the installation of five HP PageWide XL presses

Magna Powertrain, a business subsidiary of Magna International has streamlined its business by investing in a total of five HP PageWide XL presses. With the company’s first HP PageWide XL 5100 installed in 2018 at its main site in Untergruppenbach, Germany, responsible for manufacturing Transmission Systems, four more presses followed at the end of last year. The company has now fully integrated all five machines into its existing IT systems and all HP PageWide XL presses are used in parallel to produce large-format monochrome and colour prints.

As one of the leading suppliers to the automotive industry and one of the largest suppliers of transmission and all-wheel drive systems as well as engine and transmission components, Magna Powertrain is responsible for product innovations in the areas of drive design, development, testing and manufacturing. The company offers technologies that improve fuel consumption, make vehicles safer and reduce vehicle weight. For this purpose, Magna Powertrain has developed scalable platform concepts that help the global automotive industry achieve CO2 targets and increase the vehicle performance at the same time. The installation was completed by HP partner Kisters, as belonging to a strong network was of utmost importance to Magna Powertrain in the selection process."
“Our goal was to significantly downsize and standardise the historically grown and outdated machine park. A modular and scalable system with strong potential for the future was of great importance to us”, explained Hartmut Rebmann, System & User Support, PDM & PLM, Magna Powertrain. “After the installation of the first HP PageWide XL 5100, it quickly became apparent that this model series exceeds our requirements. As the integration of new presses into our existing fleet was so seamless, we decided to invest in four additional machines.”
With printing speeds of up to 20 A1 pages per minute and mixed black-and-white and colour configurations, the HP PageWide XL 5100 printer series accelerates production while maximising print quality, thus helping to reduce costs. In addition to the high capacity and low-cost benefits, sustainability advantages also played a role at Magna Powertrain with the HP PageWide XL 5100 printer series offering a lower energy consumption than comparable printers.
“The trend is towards a purely digital management of our documents. Nevertheless, paper printouts are still essential working documents in the production and development of our products. However, in view of the declining circulation, it is important that the remaining demand is covered economically by universally applicable, modular, scalable, and uniform systems. This is possible with the HP PageWide XL and we are well prepared for the future,” Rebmann emphasised.
