Esbottle and Metsä Board develop new concept for environmentally friendly, goblet-shaped paper cups for party drinks

Metsä Board, a leading European producer of premium fresh fibre board and a member of the Metsä Group, is currently developing an environmentally friendly, attractive concept for a goblet-shaped paper cup that helps reduce the use of plastic, in cooperation with the Finnish start-up company Esbottle. The new cup offers a stylish design for party drinks and scores points for its light weight, easy transport and recycling. It can be individually designed using standard printing processes and special effects.

Esbottle, based in Espoo, develops innovative, responsibly manufactured and high quality solutions for the food and beverage industry. The new design is a collaboration between Esbottle and Metsä Board's packaging design team. The paper cup has a classic cup shape and consists of two parts. The cup and foot sections can be stacked inside each other, which brings efficiency advantages for transport and recycling.
"Together with Esbottle, we are currently testing the concept and investigating the material options, market interest and other possible applications. We think this innovative paper cup is an excellent example of how to combine material potential, design and new technology in an environmentally friendly way," says Ilkka Harju, Packaging Services Director, EMEA & APAC at Metsä Board.
