Special start to the new academic year

At Schreiner Group, an international family-owned company for innovative high-tech labels and functional parts, the starting signal for the new training year was given on September 1, 2020. Twenty-one new apprentices have started their training or dual studies in ten different professions. Compared to the previous year, one more trainee was even hired despite the corona crisis - thus Schreiner Group continues to be committed to providing first-class training for young professionals.

In contrast to the usual situation, the new training year started under the current corona conditions: limited number of people in the seminar rooms, hygiene regulations and minimum distance. The corona pandemic not only poses major challenges for companies, but young people were also severely affected by the crisis in their search for a suitable training place. "We are pleased that we were able to fill all the positions as planned, in order to give young people a perspective for their future in this special year," explains Ulrike Piplak-Föhl, Human Resources Officer Training. "The training of junior staff is extremely important and has very high priority at Schreiner Group. It makes a very significant contribution to securing our future".
The high percentage of former apprentices also shows the great importance Schreiner Group attaches to training. Ten percent of Schreiner Group's 1,100 employees have also completed an apprenticeship at Schreiner Group. Whether machine and plant operators, media technologists, print specialists, warehouse clerks, media designers or commercial apprentices - Schreiner Group trains more than ten different professions every year.
The internal familiarization program was again held this year: Divided into two groups, the apprentices learned about Schreiner Group's most important contents in onboarding sessions and training courses. As every year, the "newcomers" were assigned an apprentice mentor who was available during the first few weeks to answer all questions regarding the company and training.
However, the trainee days in the first week of training had to be cancelled this year, but are planned for spring 2021. "We definitely want to make up for them and hope that the situation will allow it then," says Bozidar Petrak, training officer for production. Team building among the trainees is at the forefront of this, as is stepping out of one's own comfort zone in order to develop personally in the best possible way during the training.
