Certified B Corporation chooses Invercote Duo from Antalis

When award-winning ethical jewellery brand Yala was looking for packaging materials compatible with its values and Certified B Corporation status, it selected Invercote Duo from Antalis.

Founded by Kenyan-born Audrey Migot-Adholla, Yala takes the inspiration for its jewellery from modern Africa, combining traditional craft with 21st century values. It is the first jewellery brand in the UK to be a Certified B Corporation, committed to treating people, communities and the environment respectfully, sustainably and ethically.

It is important to Yala that every aspect of the packaging is as low impact and sustainable as possible, which is why they selected FSC®-certified Invercote Duo, a two-sided laminated solid bleached board, with triple coated silk finish on both sides. Due to its strength, toughness and thickness, Invercote Duo is especially suitable for wine and spirits packaging and point of sale displays and, like other Invercote boards, is ideal for the packaging of luxury products such as Yala jewellery.

Invercote Duo is manufactured by Iggesund at its mill in Sweden, which has been awarded Platinum for sustainability by Ecovadis, putting it in the top 1% off all 65,000 companies rated by Ecovadis.

Yala worked with London-based Boss Print on the development of a packaging design that uses as few components as possible and is easy to recycle. The packaging comprises a tray with a sleeve upon which the Yala logo is gold foil blocked. The inside of the sleeve is printed with a repeat design based on the Yala logo, in black. The inside of the tray is also printed in black with a message promoting the company’s B Corporation status.

For ease of storage, the components are supplied die cut and flat-packed, ready to be assembled by Yala as needed. The tray requires no gluing while the sleeve, which is also supplied flat-packed, has just one gluing. When made up the boxes are very strong, providing ample protection for the jewellery inside.

Audrey Migot-Adholla, founder of Yala, was delighted with the packaging, which has also been equally well received by her customers as reviews on the company’s website attest. Customer comments include: “… the packaging is a work of art”, and “Gorgeous quality and I really appreciate the thought that goes into the packaging to make sure it’s as environmentally friendly as possible – while still feeling luxury!”
