Djazagro: the 18th edition of the food industry exhibition is about to begin

60 Italian companies will be present as part of a country pavilion.

Propak East Africa was also a success

The stage is set for the 2022 edition of Djazagro, the trade fair devoted to the food processing, preservation and packaging sectors to be held from 30 May to 2 June in Algiers.

The Italian pavilion will be a major attraction at the show with 60 companies hosted in a floor space of 606 square metres. These figures are higher than the last pre-pandemic edition held in 2019 when Italy was represented by 46 companies occupying a space of 558 square metres.

The Italian pavilion is organised by Ucima in cooperation with the Italian Trade Agency ITA, both of which will be present with an institutional stand.

Since its launch in 2003, the show has become an important meeting point for Algerian and international agribusiness professionals and has attracted a growing number of visitors each year. In 2019 it saw the participation of 684 exhibitors and 22,000 visitors from 34 countries.

"It is an important opportunity for our Association and an outstanding showcase for companies," commented Ucima Chairman Matteo Gentili. "In 2021, Italy exported over •37 million worth of packaging machinery to Algeria, making it the top exporter country with 32% of the total market share, followed by France and Germany. Algeria ranks 39th among Italian export destinations and is the fourth largest import market in Africa with a total value of imported machinery of around •120 million."

This latest event follows closely behind the recently concluded Propak East Africa, which took place in Kenya from 10 to 12 May. The Italian pavilion, again organised by Ucima in cooperation with ITA, hosted 10 Italian companies: Arol (Asti), Cavanna (Novara), Costruzioni Meccaniche Sottoriva (Vicenza), Galdi (Treviso), Goglio (Varese), IPI (Perugia), Makpro (Parma), R. Bardi (Parma), SMI (Bergamo) and Tropical Food Machinery (Parma). The exhibition saw the participation of more than 150 exhibitors and was attended by over 5,500 visitors from some 35 countries. Next year's event will be held from 14 to 16 May 2023.
