TÜV SÜD certifies data centers in accordance with the European standard EN 50600, a holistic approach that covers all aspects of the facilities and infrastructure of a data center. Computer centres are an integral part of the modern information society. As a result of digitalization, the demand for secure and available data centers will continue to increase in the future. At the same time, planners, builders and operators must meet increasing demands on the structural and technical infrastructure. "Certification to EN 50600 creates clarity and transparency with regard to the security and availability of a data centre and is thus the basis for the trust of operators and users", says Thomas Grüschow, data centre specialist at TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. The standard regulates all aspects of physical facilities, takes into account the design and planning of the infrastructure as well as operational management, and offers a variety of links to other standards and management standards such as ISO 27001.
Pragmatic and solution-oriented approach
Despite the high requirements, EN 50600 has decisive advantages for planners, decision makers and operators. The complete infrastructure can be mapped in a single certificate and the technical requirements can be adapted to the needs of the respective location and the specific business within the framework of the specialist planning. This means that projects can be planned very specifically and implemented in a cost-optimized manner. Thomas Grüschow: "Our customers are just as convinced of the pragmatic and solution-oriented approach of the standard as they are of the comprehensible and traceable audits that we carry out as part of the certification process".
TÜV SÜD has been certifying data centers according to EN 50600 since 2015: "We have extensive experience and also the necessary background knowledge of how EN 50600 can be optimally implemented in combination with other requirements", explains Thomas Grüschow. The expert is convinced that the standard will prevail in a market that is experiencing extremely dynamic growth. This also applies to the international standard ISO/IEC TS 22237, which is currently being coordinated and will be applied beyond Europe.
