TRUMPF machine tools win the HERMES AWARD 2020

This year, the machine tool manufacturer TRUMPF will receive the HERMES AWARD. The company thus receives one of the most coveted international industry awards for its product omlox - open location standard. The award was presented on July 14 during the HANNOVER MESSE Digital Days.

With the product omlox - open location standard, the jury, chaired by Prof. Dr. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, awards a global and location technology independent solution. The omlox project is the first open standard for positioning services. More than 60 industrial companies were involved in its development. The omlox standard combines all positioning services available on the market, such as UWB, WLAN; BLE, GPS or 5G. These are transformed into a uniform coordinate reference system and can be made available for internal use on edge platforms or for global use in a cloud. With omlox information from all positioning technologies can be used for the first time. The position data bundled in this way enables a targeted optimization of process flows. The omlox standard creates an interoperable ecosystem in which the heterogeneous technical infrastructures are harmonized, making IIOT and Industry 4.0 affordable for medium-sized businesses.

Prof. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and chairman of the jury for the HERMES AWARD, said: "The HERMES AWARD honors outstanding, innovative products every year. This year, we have once again found a worthy winner among the numerous applications: TRUMPF machine tools point the way to a versatile, standardized yet flexible production environment. The prize is awarded to the first open and interoperable standard for positioning services in industrial environments. It was developed in collaboration with 60 industrial companies. The integrative solution facilitates the use of hardware and software from different manufacturers right through to plug-and-play, a step that companies have consistently found very helpful.

The HERMES AWARD 2020 was presented during the Digital Event at HANNOVER MESSE on 14 July.

The HERMES AWARD is the international technology prize at HANNOVER MESSE and is presented annually during the show. It is aimed at all companies and institutions exhibiting at HANNOVER MESSE and honors outstanding products and innovative solutions that demonstrate a particularly high degree of technological innovation. Since HANNOVER MESSE had to be cancelled this year due to the Corona Pandemic, the prize was awarded digitally for the first time. From 2021 onwards, the winner of the HERMES AWARD will once again be honored during the opening ceremony of HANNOVER MESSE.
