New release DEVONthink 3.6.2

DEVONtechnologies updates its documentation and information manager DEVONthink to version 3.6.2. New CloudKit support makes synchronizing via iCloud much faster and more reliable. The update also brings extensive support for CriticMarkup and diagrams in Markdown via Mermaid.js. Other improvements include the ability to export documents as Microsoft Word .docx files, new AppleScript properties, and more.

DEVONthink is DEVONtechnologies' document and information management solution. It supports a large variety of file formats and stores them in a database enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI). Many document formats can be directly viewed, edited, and annotated. A powerful search language finds documents in an instant, smart groups keep them always at hand.

Sophisticated organization tools, AI-based techniques that handle even the largest collections, and numerous integration options make DEVONthink the work environment of choice for researchers, lawyers, and educators. Smart rules, flexible reminders, and deep AppleScript support allow automating even complex repeating tasks. And with its fast, reliable, and secure synchronization users keep their data available on all their Macs. DEVONthink To Go for iPad and iPhone completes the DEVONthink ecosystem.

New in DEVONthink 3.6.2

DEVONthink 3.6.2 complements DEVONthink To Go 3.0’s new CloudKit-based sync from the Mac side.

iCloud is a system comprised of multiple parts, one being a file service responsible, e.g., for iCloud Drive, and another, CloudKit, storing and transferring data via a cloud database. The new iCloud (CloudKit) sync locations combine iCloud-like easy setup with a single-stage, transparent, and fast synchronization.

A fast and reliable yet easy to set up synchronization is key for an application like DEVONthink. By using CloudKit instead of the iCloud file service we made synchronizing via iCloud much more straightforward. No multi-stage sync, no resource-intensive upload monitoring. For the majority of our users this is the one button sync they rightfully expect, with a cloud service they are already subscribed to.
Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies

Markdown receives extensive support for CriticMarkdown throughout the whole application, from formatting and converting to creating summaries. DEVONthink 3.6.2 also knows about some alternative highlighting and strikethrough Markdown syntax, and lets users create diagrams with Mermaid.js.

Further improvements include abilities to export documents in the Microsoft Office Open XML format (.docx), to summarize highlights as a sheet, or to convert all WikiLinks in a document to robust item links when desired.

Exporting as Unix mailboxes supports saving email messages from selected groups or smart groups. Automators will like improvements to some AppleScript commands and a new smart rule script designed to move items named by email addresses. The update also improves compatibility to, e.g., HoudahSpot, as well as the overall performance and reliability. And finally, DEVONthink 3.6.2 comes with an updated icon to match the Mac’s new style.

The update is free for existing users and highly recommended.
