Portuguese industry stands out for innovation

Portugal, the partner country of HANNOVER MESSE 2022, is a global player in the market for technical parts and solutions. In this business field, the range of services offered by Portuguese companies has demonstrated enormous international competitiveness. Engineered Parts & Solutions is one of the central areas in which Portugal will present itself at HANNOVER MESSE 2022 - represented by 69 companies in Hall 3.

Thanks to the highly flexible production of small series with high added value and outstanding value for money, Portugal has strengthened its position as an international player in recent years. The main customers are important, demanding, sophisticated industries such as automotive, aerospace , electrical and electronics, to name but a few.

For the production of high-precision metal, plastic or rubber components, leading international companies rely on the skilled and experienced Portuguese workforce and the technological and engineering capabilities of Portuguese manufacturers.

Whether it is small components or complete systems, Portuguese companies stand for quality. They are mainly SMEs that have acquired the necessary specialised knowledge and have successively developed their flexibility and efficiency in dealing with customer requirements. They show themselves to be very innovative in order to better respond to the new challenges of the market Their competitiveness is based on engineering skills, the implementation of modern design requirements and the use of highly qualified professionals in production and control to ensure compliance with the most stringent quality and service standards.

At HANNOVER MESSE 2022, companies from the fields of casting, machined parts, sheet metal forming, parts and components made of plastics, rubber and composites, tools and moulds, as well as companies offering new solutions around these areas, will be presenting their products and services.

Sand and investment casting company Ferespe, together with the Faculty of Engineering Sciences of the University of Porto (FEUP) and the Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (INEGI), has developed a special direct investment casting process in which precision castings can be produced from a model created by additive manufacturing (3D printing/mouldless) using a new nickel alloy. The process is suitable for the production of small and medium series.

The University of Coimbra will present a cost-effective and scalable process solution for integrating microchips into stretchable printed circuit boards and printed and stretchable electronics, enabling the production of complex soft-matter circuits in just two steps.

Injection moulding specialist SOPLAST will present a patent-pending technology from Portugal's Coimbra University that is being used for the first time in automotive functions such as steering, HMI interface and seat control.

The metalworking company Adira has developed a large-format additive manufacturing printer with L-PBF (Laser Powder Bed Fusion) technology in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT. The parts printed with this machine are used in the aerospace industry, the automotive industry and in the production of prototypes.

Finally, metallurgy specialist TSF and INEGI have developed a machine for friction stir welding. This is a hybrid machine (for milling and friction welding) that enables the production of joints between thin hard alloys (aluminium and other light alloys) and hard alloys (iron alloys, titanium, etc.) in various joining configurations. This equipment can be used in the aerospace, railway and automotive industries (such as for the production of lattice frames, chassis components, fuel tanks, bus chassis and other driving devices).

Portuguese companies in the technical parts and solutions sector have gained an international reputation for quality, innovation and technology. They will be exhibiting in the Portugal-Engineered Parts & Solutions Pavilion in Hall 3 at HANNOVER MESSE.
