CeBIT 2014: Datability generating major dialogue

NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General and EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes to participate in the CeBIT Global Conferences

The keynote theme for CeBIT 2014 – Datability – will be at the center of attention and generate lots of dialogue throughout the show's forums, conferences and lecture events. Prestigious speakers are also contributing to the CeBIT Global Conferences. NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, Dr. Jamie Shea, and EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes are among those to be participating.

NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General to address "Trust & Security"

For the first time ever, a leading NATO representative is participating in the CeBIT Global Conferences: Dr. Jamie Shea is the NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General responsible for Emerging Security Challenges. This strategist from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is speaking on Thursday, 13 March, under the "Trust & Security" topic cluster. Shea has recently been exploring possible responses to new cyberattack threat scenarios for NATO. Here, Shea has repeatedly made clear that the military does not have the monopoly today on combatting these new threats, but must seek closer cooperation with civilian organizations.

EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes to speak on cybersecurity

On the afternoon of the very first day of the show, 10 March, the CeBIT Global Conferences will revolve around cybersecurity and user trust in modern technologies. Neelie Kroes, EU Commissioner for the European Digital Agenda, is among the speakers. This EU political initiative aims to equip the European domestic digital market with modern high-speed networks and interoperable applications by 2020. A key facet of the Digital Agenda is a European cybersecurity strategy. Kroes is focused on the development of quality seals for data protection and supports a legal reporting requirement for all companies doing business in Europe that experience a data breach – whether by hackers or secret service organizations.

Huawei to speak on Cloud and Big Data

Among the speakers on the Wednesday, 12 March, is Derek Liu, Vice President Marketing of Huawei Technologies, on the topic "Datability – Cloud & Big Data." His address will certainly be particularly interesting in light of Huawei's great success in two huge and growing markets: mobile and China. Huawei is working intensively with international partners on the worldwide introduction and use of cloud technologies.

Mindbreeze, Tata and Infosys to speak on the opportunities and risks involved in Big Data

No less stimulating will be the subsequent panel on the opportunities, risks and limits of Big Data. Participants include Daniel Fallmann, CEO of Mindbreeze, Dr. Satya Ramaswamy, Vice President and Global Head of Digital Enterprise at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Franz-Josef Schürmann, CEO of Infosys Germany.

F-Secure and Cloudera on protecting critical data and secure Big Data applications

The Datability keynote talks at the CeBIT Global Conferences which will follow on Thursday afternoon are to be given by several big names in IT. Cybersecurity expert and TED speaker Mikko Hyppönen, Chief Research Officer of the Finnish corporation F-Secure, talks about how companies can best protect their critical data and infrastructures from third-party attacks. Mike Olsen, founder and Chief Strategy Officer of the leading US firm Cloudera discusses Big Data applications in the cloud.

Datability from the scientific perspective, at "future talk"

The Datability topic is hotly discussed outside the CeBIT Global Conferences as well. The "future talk" conference in the CeBIT Research & Innovation area (Hall 9) addresses the topic by means of several presentations. Researchers and developers take center stage here. On Monday, 10 March, Dr. Wolf-Dieter Lukas, Head of Department at the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), will address various impacts of the digital revolution. Christof Bühler of Supercomputing Systems from Zurich, Switzerland is presenting real-time supercomputing for road, rail and air on Tuesday, 11 March. Thursday's topics include a cloud-based marketplace for information and analyses, the purpose of which is to share and pool data sources and analysis methods for mutual benefit. The speaker is Peter Adolphs of Neofonie. One of the presentations on Friday, 14 March, is entitled "Modern IT solutions to support relief forces in crisis situations," presented by Dr. Volkmar Schau of Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

Importance of Big Data for healthcare at the Industrial Users Conference

This theme is also on the program of the premiere Industrial Users Conference event in Hall 12. Dr. Sonja Zillner of Siemens will address the importance of Big Data for the healthcare sector on Thursday, 13 March. She is presenting the results of the BIG study. The panel discussion to follow explores the business and medical potential of healthcare analytics.

"BI" conference on managing large data volumes

Today companies need to be able to efficiently analyze customer processes and the market environment, to improve customer retention and increase sales. Trending topics such as customer analytics, social media marketing and xCRM open up new opportunities in customer relations management, but also bring new challenges. On Wednesday, 12 March, Dr. Carsten Bange, CEO of BARC, will be addressing the uses and application scenarios for large data volumes at the Business Intelligence Conference in Hall 6.
