Sunny days for Deutsche Messe's global portfolio: Majority stake in Canadian solar events

- Deutsche Messe AG strikes deal with Canadian Solar Industries Association

- Second partnership in growing Canadian clean-energy market

Deutsche Messe AG and the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) have formed a partnership in which Deutsche Messe AG assumes majority ownership of three CanSIA solar events. Hannover Fairs Canada, a Deutsche Messe subsidiary, is now responsible for all sales, marketing and operations of Solar Canada, Solar Ontario and Solar West, while CanSIA will continue to manage the respective conference programs. The deal with CanSIA follows Deutsche Messe's purchase in December 2013 of Canada's biggest wind-energy event, the CanWEA Annual Conference and Exhibition, and expands Deutsche Messe's portfolio of energy events to four in Canada and 11 worldwide.

"Canada is a global leader in clean energy. Our partnership with the Canadian Solar Industries Association is an important next step as we build our energy portfolio in the growing Canadian renewable energy market," said Dr. Andreas Gruchow, member of the managing board at Deutsche Messe AG. "The 'Solar' brand is strong in Canada. Our goal is to broaden the international appeal of these events, which we will do through our global network of sales partners, customers and trade associations."

"Deutsche Messe has an outstanding track record of producing events worldwide," added John Gorman, president and CEO of CanSIA. "Partnering with such a well-established event organizer enables us to present innovative Canadian solar energy models and solutions to a broader international audience."

According to Tracking the Energy Revolution, Clean Energy Canada's recent report on Canada's clean energy performance, cumulative investment in Canada's clean-energy sector amounted to $25 billion over the past five years. In 2013, Canada jumped from twelfth to seventh place in the G20 for clean- energy investment and 37 percent more Canadians worked in the renewable energy industry than in 2009. As a result, Canada's clean-energy sector – encompassing manufacturing, power production, energy efficiency, and biofuels – now directly accounts for more jobs than Canada's oil sands. Canada's provinces have either just completed or are in the process of completing their long range energy plans with significant focus on renewable energies. Even Alberta, a long-time producer of oil and gas, is expected to increase its support for renewable energy generation.

Solar Canada is Canada's largest solar energy exhibition and conference. The event's 200 exhibiting companies and conference program attract 3,000 attendees who want to see the latest solar energy products and solutions and share knowledge and network with industry peers. Solar Canada 2015 is scheduled for 7–8 December in Toronto, Ontario. Solar Ontario 2015 will run 25–27 May in Niagara Falls, Ontario; Solar West 2015 will take place in October.
