Sustainability in online shipping: Snocks goes Green

The shipping packaging for socks and boxer shorts of the Snocks brand represents a sustainable solution for online shipping. Thimm produces the environmentally friendly packaging from corrugated grassboard. Due to its construction, Snocks does not require any additional packing straps. At the same time, the environmentally conscious security closure protects against unauthorised access to the textiles. Snocks also uses the packaging as a digital means of communication.

The textile company Snocks was founded in 2016 and today primarily sells socks and boxer shorts in its online shop. The Mannheim-based start-up has been reviewing its production, packaging and delivery processes for some time now in order to uncover sustainable concepts. Thimm developed a shipping package for Snocks that, due to its design, can be closed without adhesive tape, staples or strapping. The integrated sealing mechanism protects against unauthorized access during transport. A sealed package can be opened via the tear perforation, which signals the integrity of the delivery to the recipient. In addition to technical functionality, Snocks also relies on sustainable raw materials: The shipping packaging consists of 70 percent recycled paper and 30 percent grass fibres.
With the aim of an emotional customer approach, Thimm has printed QR codes on the packaging. Snocks links this to a landing page and thus quickly and easily presents information about sustainability aspects of the packaging. Such interactions between consumers and the brand are becoming increasingly popular as they contribute to brand loyalty and open digital channels for communication.
At the "E-Commerce Berlin Expo", the B2B Expo and conference for e-commerce service providers in the German capital, Snocks' packaging received the E-Commerce Germany Award. Here the sustainable shipping packaging won in the category "Best Logistic Solution".
