Today, March 3, officially marks the 50-day countdown to the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22nd. What’s more, today also marks the 200-day countdown to World Cleanup Day on September 19th. Through our joint efforts, both events will serve as an opportunity to unite the cleanup community around our mutual goal of a waste-free world.
Cleanup organizers across the U.S. and the world are being urged to join the Great Global Cleanup with prominent visibility of their events and organizations on the global cleanup map. Event registrations are open now and cleanup organizers are urged to sign up now.

Let’s Do It World - www.worldcleanupday.org- is a global organization uniting more than 180 countries for World Cleanup Day. The first World Cleanup day was held in September 2018 and it gathered over 17 million people across 157 countries and territories for the biggest waste collection effort in human history. The second edition, on 21st September 2019 saw more than 21 million people from 180 countries cleaning up trash. World Cleanup Day harnesses the power of everyday people through cooperation and collaboration: building bridges between disparate communities and all levels of society – from citizens to business, to government. Each country has a leader or a group of leaders who work day and night, often as volunteers to mobilize people for World Cleanup Day.
Earth Day 2020 comes 50 years after the first Earth Day which, in 1970, mobilized over 20 million citizens to demand action on the environmental challenges of the time. Today, Earth Day is observed in around 190 countries and close to 100,000 organizations. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world. For 2020, Earth Day presents the Great Global Cleanup, the most ambitious volunteer event in history with a goal to remove a billion pieces of trash from our parks, beaches, cities, waterways, and wherever waste is found. Improved health and positive growth can be achieved once people gain the expectation that their communities will be clean.
