Ex naval engineer David Read has joined the technotrans service team and will report to newly promoted Lead Engineer Steve Liddell.
David Read's career has included work at the Sizewell B nuclear plant and eight years in the navy, working on submarines. He holds a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification.
"With the submarines fleet moving to Scotland, I made the decision to leave the navy. I wanted to take on a service engineer role, to have the ability to move around and take personal responsibility for providing customers with a good, and first time, fix. I like to learn, to get stuck in and I am self-disciplined. The engineers here are very helpful and supportive and the training is very good," says David.
Steve Liddell, who was also in the navy for 17 years, and has 11 years' experience with technotrans is now going to take on a greater field support role.
Technotrans is an established name in graphic arts, supplying direct and via OEMs cooling, inking and water treatment systems.
"David brings a high level of electrical knowledge with him. We are increasing the amount of training in the field to supplement that given when new equipment is introduced and classroom instruction in Germany," says Steve Liddell.
"It will be a challenge for me to take a step back from the front line but I will enjoy supporting the other engineers. I will get a better knowledge of our SAP service which handles the service logistics. Obviously our engineers are equipped with laptops and information about the service record of customers so that they arrive well prepared and with the right tools. Our first time fix rate is already 86% and we will work to improving that even further."
