"The visitor decides where the journey will lead"

Participate instead of watch: The WORK AND DO Area at the international trade fair WETEC 2020 offers a complete advertising technology workshop

"What you have to learn in order to do it, you learn by doing it", already knew the Greek polymath Aristotle. Much of what you have to learn is only revealed when you try it out for yourself. The principle of "learning by doing", which is still used today, is also the basis of the WORK AND DO Area at the Stuttgart WETEC. After a successful premiere in 2018, the hands-on workshop is now opening its doors for the second time to users, practitioners and the curious. On the 130 square meter special area, a complete production process from data input to the finished product is presented. Active participation is expressly desired (Jacques Lanners Hall/Hall 3, Stand No. 3C40).

Offer as "real added value

Martin Gerhardts from signforum24, who organizes and supports the WORK AND DO Area, sees "real added value" for trade fair visitors in this offer: "Many trade fairs are now becoming pure exhibitions - and are therefore comparable to the Internet. However, a visit to a trade fair is important for gaining information. That's why visitors should not only look, but also help out themselves. The core of all these jobs is that the advertising technicians have to know their trade!"

"More professionalism in the industry"

According to Gerhardts, one of the goals of signforum24, the largest German-language specialist forum for advertising technology, is "to make the industry as a whole more professional again". That's why, a few years ago, they first offered "small cafés at trade fairs where people could exchange ideas and experiences - but there was nothing to touch. This gave rise to the idea of holding discussions at the object. At some point someone said: We have to set up a complete workshop here!"

In the show workshop at WETEC, fictitious orders are processed from A to Z. This means that the exhibition stand is constantly changing and expanding. There are no sellers, explains Gerhardts. "For our partners, this is recommendation marketing, a tool for measuring user feedback". Well-known manufacturers and dealers provide materials and machines, including "a cutting laser, a digital printing press and lots of small handheld machines - and of course the bread and butter machine, a cutting plotter.

Problem solutions "on site

During the work in the team, questions often arise "that we as organizers do not even expect", says Gerhardts. "The ideal situation is one in which we work together with the visitors to find a solution to a problem that arises on site. With such positive input, we as stand personnel can also learn something despite our long professional experience. The visitor decides where the journey goes. That is the key to our concept." At the WETEC 2020 in Stuttgart, they will try to produce the WETEC logo in concrete. "Maybe even illuminated - let's see what develops!"

Information for visitors

WETEC will take place from 30 January to 1 February 2020 in parallel with the TV TecStyle Visions and GiveADays trade fairs in the Jacques Lanners Hall (Hall 3) of Messe Stuttgart.
