Canon launches new imagePROGRAF PRO II series

Whether you're a photographer or a professional printer, Canon's new imagePROGRAF PRO II series makes high-quality large-format printing easier than ever. No more cutting or framing posters and elegant artwork with borderless printing. Users can realise their ideas faster and with minimal manual effort - and with a total of five new models, every user will find their favourite. All models feature advanced automatic media processing and smarter workflow options than ever before.

"Many companies already rely on the imagePROGRAF PRO series and our distinctive LUCIA PRO pigment inks for vibrant large format prints of graphics, artwork or photographs," says Wilko van Oostrum, Product Manager at Canon Germany. "Now we have five new models on offer - of course with the usual brilliant print quality. A real plus point is the sophisticated technology that makes our customers' work easier. This enables them to achieve impressive results more intelligently, faster and with less manual effort".
Precise, automatic media handling for greater productivity
The printer is adjusted, the job is running - and then suddenly the paper runs out. This frustrating waste of time and material is a thing of the past: Two sensors near the printing area measure how much material has already been processed based on the circumference of the paper roll. This allows them to use the control panel of the imagePROGRAF PRO II models to precisely determine whether the paper inserted is sufficient to print the current job. And because frequently used functions such as loading, feeding and cutting are placed as separate buttons directly under the display, the printing process runs even more smoothly.
Thanks to the new media handling, the new imagePROGRAF PRO II Series models also automatically recognize paper type and size, allowing users to simply load the media and start the print job. Meanwhile, the second roll can be prepared in parallel for a new job. The highlight: The printing systems remember for which print jobs and how often certain media types are used. This makes media recognition more precise with every print job. And because the print roll is hardly touched, no fingerprints interfere with the result.
"Many customers in the large-format printing sector are frustrated by complicated material handling processes because they consume time, nerves and budget. With the new imagePROGRAF PRO series we react directly to the needs of our customers. In particular, the PRO-4100S and PRO-6100S devices for the highly productive print-for-pay market significantly streamline print processes, taking printing experiences to a whole new level," adds van Oostrum.
Superior image quality for professional users
Equipped with a 12-ink system, the PRO-2100, Pro-4100 and PRO-6100 models deliver extreme colour fidelity, especially when outputting images taken with a Canon EOS camera. Thanks to the unique input-output technology with Canon's Crystal Fidelity workflow, the print result matches the shot exactly.
The systems print with advanced LUCIA PRO pigment inks to meet the high quality demands of photographers and graphic artists. Canon's Chroma Optimizer technology also ensures brilliant colour intensity and significantly deeper black reproduction in print.
LUCIA PRO inks achieve this through their encapsulated micro-pigments, which lie virtually flat on the printed paper surface and thus prevent unwanted light scattering. The light incident on the print is always reflected at the same angle and thus ensures consistent colour rendering.
This effect is enhanced by the Chroma Optimiser available on some models, which, in addition to the Lucia Pro inks, also equalises the surface structure of the paper. The result is prints with optimized color reproduction.
Van Oostrum says: "Canon understands the importance of fine detail and precise colour in a professional environment. Even images from medium quality cameras have a very high resolution and with the possibilities of the current image processing software, the need for a high-precision and color-accurate output increases. The powerful technology of the new PRO II models not only offers incredible print quality, but the small footprint also makes them the ideal partner for any office, studio or design department".
First plan, then print
High-quality print products are preceded by well thought-out, efficient preparation. The motif must not only be aesthetically harmonious, but the optimal use of the printing area must also be carefully thought out. The imagePROGRAF PRO II series therefore comes with a new, improved version of Canon's Professional Print & Layout software. Images can be roughly placed using drag & drop - the automated nesting function calculates the optimal utilization of the printing area on its own. The sample print function also allows multiple thumbnails to be printed to check brightness, contrast and other variables before final printing.
Printing without limits
Borderless prints make an impression - and often a lot of work. That doesn't have to be the case: The advanced materials sensor on the imagePROGRAF PRO II models automatically detects the edges of a print and adjusts the edges to match the position. Borderless prints in different formats are easily possible regardless of the size of the source material. In addition, users can choose between "free format" and "three-sided borderless" options.
