Ricoh signs UN statement to raise awareness of how Corona aid packages are aligned with climate change goals

Ricoh has joined forces with over 170 companies worldwide to sign a new declaration of the United Nations Global Compact and the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)[1] <#_ftn1>. The statement "Uniting Business and Governments to Recover Better" is part of SBTi's "Business Ambition for 1.5 °C" campaign and urges governments around the world to align their aid packages and recovery plans to support the economy in the Corona crisis with the latest scientific findings on climate change.

"Cooperation between governments and companies will be the key to rebuilding after the Corona crisis, both economically and environmentally," says Nicola Downing, COO of Ricoh Europe. "Now is not the time to lose sight of our climate protection efforts and our commitment to achieving the UN sustainability goals. We need to focus more than ever on our net zero emissions target for 2050 and help our customers adopt sustainable practices".
In March 2020, Ricoh set new global emissions targets for 2030, as the latest scientific evidence suggests that our actions will be particularly important over the next 10 years. The new SBTi-approved target is to reduce the Ricoh Group's greenhouse gas emissions by 63 percent compared to 2015 to help limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The statement signed by Ricoh emphasizes the importance of economic recovery in line with the 1.5°C target and encourages governments not to ignore climate change targets in their corona aid packages and recovery plans.
As it accelerates its own transformation, Ricoh will continue to contribute to the goal of climate neutrality by 2050. This will be achieved by accelerating energy saving and renewable energy initiatives and by providing digital services to customers to support new ways of working, such as remote work and distance learning.
