Betzold Schulbedarf - consistent product visualization for more success on the web

Automated furniture renderings improve the customer experience and increase sales

For 50 years, the family business Betzold from Ellwangen has been THE expert for everything that schools, educational institutions and kindergartens need to teach, learn and play. Betzold is not only a dealer and advisor, but also a manufacturer, for example of school furniture. In many cases, these are available in many variations. Cupboards are available in various widths, heights and depths. In addition, there are several wood veneers and decors, locking types, compartment divisions, interior fittings, substructures, etc., etc. - mathematically extrapolated, many thousands of possible combinations quickly result. In order to be able to show its customers all the variants of a new furniture program in the online shop in the form of product images, an efficient solution had to be found - photography was far too costly and time-consuming, as was manual rendering from CAD data.
With the help of Meyle+Müller CG-Studios a way was found to create product images of all variants - in high quality and in several views. The core components of the solution are the CAD data of the furniture components, a material and surface library coordinated with Betzold, a jointly modelled configuration database describing all offered combinations, and an automation process developed by Meyle+Müller, which is accessed by a so-called compositing software. In the end, i.e. after an initialization project lasting several months, more than 40,000 images could be rendered within a period of a few weeks. A period of time that would have been neither feasible nor affordable using conventional methods. Side effect: The project created an optimal starting point for future sales applications in the field of augmented reality or online configurators.
