AlphaGraphics Sees Growth in Executive-Level Franchise Owners

Business-to-Business Consulting Opportunity Attracts Entrepreneurs in New Economy

There's a new economy emerging in America – executive-level talent joining franchise organizations that offer an entrepreneurial opportunity supported by a network of partners and peers. It's a trend at AlphaGraphics, according to Chief Development Officer Dave Buzza.

"Across our roster, we see people who left senior management positions to take ownership of their careers," Buzza said. "Whether they are starting new AlphaGraphics business centers or acquiring successful operations from one of our existing franchise partners, talented entrepreneurs are drawn to the opportunity."

With nearly 300 locations worldwide, AlphaGraphics offers print and marketing communications services that help small and medium-sized businesses grow. Buzza says that consultative role is an attractive one, parlaying executive experience into a rewarding relationship-based business.

In recent months, AlphaGraphics has added franchise partners Mark Wilhelm, a former managing director for Pirelli Tires; Jac Bloomberg, former vice president with Morgan Stanley; and Russell Price, former president of a division of the publicly held Consolidated Graphics.

"I was tired of corporate America, and ready to do something on my own," Bloomberg said. "When I found AlphaGraphics, I knew it was worth pursuing."

Wilhem's career was spent on the other side of the table, working with startup Pirelli suppliers, developing sales programs and marketing materials. He says AlphaGraphics owners have unlimited potential – the ability to sell a full suite of products and services with the support of a global network.

"I can bring value to a small business that is having trouble understanding what marketing tools to use, because I've been there," he said. "I've always thought about starting my own business. I finally had the courage to do it, and it's been a fantastic experience."

It's rewarding work for Buzza, too. With 97 percent franchisee satisfaction, median sales of more than $900,000 per the company Franchise Disclosure Document, and 25 percent of the AlphaGraphics Network posting double-digit growth in 2013, there's a lot to celebrate.

"These are professionals who know what they want, and we vet each other thoroughly on the front end to ensure a good fit," Buzza said. "For the right candidate, it can be a very lucrative business."
