Bizerba increases turnover and is well prepared for the year 2020

Bizerba, one of the leading suppliers of hardware and software solutions in the field of weighing, cutting and labelling technology, generated a turnover of 701 million euros worldwide in the 2019 financial year. The family-owned company from Balingen, Baden-Württemberg, was thus able to increase its turnover by 4% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Sales in the past fiscal year are traditionally based on a strong domestic market. With a 30% share of turnover, Germany is still the most important market for Bizerba. 47% of sales were generated in other European countries, which increased again compared to 2018. At 21%, the Americas region remains at a stable level.

The distribution of sales between the business segments remains stable in 2019. Significant growth was achieved in the Industry, Service and Labels & Consumables business segments. The number of employees rose to 4,171, of which 2,192 work outside Germany.

"The positive sales development in 2019 confirms us in our strategy and our approach," says Andreas Kraut, CEO and shareholder of Bizerba. "We will build on this with new hardware and software solutions and offer our customers innovative approaches that will revolutionise industries.

The drivers of the success are the core areas of weighing, cutting and labelling technology. However, the Business Services Division and the company's various financing offers also made an important contribution. Bizerba is strengthening its locations with investments amounting to 19.6 million euros.

Investments in the future

The construction of the new, state-of-the-art logistics centre for spare parts logistics at the main and service location Balingen was started in 2019 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. The logistics centre includes a pallet warehouse and a small parts warehouse with semi-automatic picking. It is designed for about 45 employees and about 1,000 parcels per day.

In addition, the first areas at the Balingen site have been converted into modern office environments in accordance with the latest findings, which optimally support the work of the employees. The expansion of further areas will continue in 2020.

In addition to the investment in the locations, Bizerba is also continuing to invest heavily in digitalisation. Expansions and modernisation of the IT infrastructure as well as in new software tools provide an optimal basis for further digitalisation at Bizerba.

Software will become the central element of Bizerba's solutions and will be further expanded as one of the most important business areas.

Investments in modern infrastructure were also made in the Labels & Consumables business area. The new coaters acquired in 2019 are able to produce optimal linerless labels for the new Bizerba solutions.

2020 started at previous year's level

The sales development in the first quarter of 2020 is at the same level as the previous year. "Bizerba started to develop innovative solutions at an early stage several years ago. The current situation gives a particular boost to development, so that remote service, for example, is currently in demand by many customers," says Andreas Kraut.

New solutions for the supermarket

With Supersmart powered by Bizerba an innovative solution for the supermarket is new in the portfolio. The system simplifies shopping enormously and also helps supermarkets to comply with the newly valid hygiene regulations. The solution was developed in cooperation with the Israeli start-up Supersmart and is distributed by Bizerba worldwide. The first solutions have already been installed in Turkey and the Czech Republic.

The new K3 generation of shop scales is already in the starting blocks for 2020. Highly networkable, with an innovative multi-touch display for easy operation and modular design, this shop scale is ideally suited for use in modern supermarkets.

With the new packaging machines developed especially for the retail sector, large supermarkets can pack, weigh and label small quantities in just one step - ideal, for example, for connecting an online shop.

Larger labels with more information and less waste

With the GLM-Ievo F-Wrap Bizerba offers a new price labeler for the food industry from 2020. In conjunction with the "GlueFreeZone" linerless labels this labeler can be used to print more information about the product while at the same time reducing waste, as the linerless labels do not need the backing paper - the so-called liner. By using the "GlueFreeZone" linerless labels, the blades in the machine are protected, there is less sticking and therefore less downtime.

The vision of the Strategy 2025 determines Bizerba's activities for the next five years. On the one hand, Bizerba focuses on its employees and colleagues, who all work together to form MyBizerba, to optimise cooperation among themselves and to develop unique solutions for customers. In the next five years Bizerba will continue to stand for international standards in the field of weighing, cutting and labelling - the focus is on the intelligent combination of hardware and software, coupled with sensible service offers.
