Seasoned Executive Brings Solid Mobile Broadband and Internet Expertise
Silicon Image (NASDAQ: SIMG), a leading provider of multimedia connectivity solutions and services, today announced the appointment of Khurram Sheikh as Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, reporting to Silicon Image Chief Executive Officer Camillo Martino. In the new role, Mr. Sheikh will be responsible for driving the company's strategic initiatives and technology innovation as well as overseeing corporate development, business development and industry standards activities.
With over 20 years of experience in the mobile broadband and Internet industry, Mr. Sheikh has been at the forefront of many groundbreaking efforts, including development of the 4G wireless technology standards and ecosystem, building the first broadband wireless 4G network and devices, deploying the first cable Wi-Fi systems and designing the first integrated 4G-Wi-Fi small cell base station.
Prior to joining Silicon Image, Mr. Sheikh was founder and CEO of JKSFS, a communications technology company based in Silicon Valley. Previously, he served as CEO and CTO of Powerwave Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of end-to-end wireless infrastructure solutions. Mr. Sheikh has also held senior executive positions at Time Warner Cable and Sprint.

Mr. Sheikh received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan with highest honors and a master's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on wireless communications from Stanford University. He has also completed executive development courses at the Harvard Business School and the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is an active board member of several venture-funded start-up and private equity funded companies focused on breakthrough technologies that are shaping the communication ecosystem from the device to the cloud.
In connection with his hiring, Mr. Sheikh was granted an inducement award on October 15, 2014 consisting of a restricted stock unit award representing the right to receive 150,000 shares of the Company's common stock, which award will vest fully on each date of December 31, 2015, December 31, 2016 and December 31, 2017, subject to certain performance criteria based on the Company's GAAP earnings per share and subject to his continuous service through each vesting date. The Compensation Committee of the Company's Board of Directors granted the award on October 15, 2014 as an inducement to Mr. Sheikh's employment in accordance with NASDAQ Listing Rule 5635(c)(4).
