Due to the corona pandemic, the micromobility expo cannot start in Hanover in the summer of 2020. Instead, the fair for micromobility, mobility infrastructures and services will be held as an online trade fair from 27 to 28 August. Deutsche Messe is thus launching a new, digital meeting place for the micromobility industry and offering an alternative for all those who have to forgo participating in and visiting micromobility expo this year. The micromobility expo brings together manufacturers and users to promote micromobility in society and provide impulses for the necessary change in traffic patterns in urban areas. Due to the pandemic, the event has already had to be postponed from May to August.
"We are currently working flat out to convert the micromobility expo into a digital format," says Simona Erdmann, developer and project manager of the micromobility expo, Deutsche Messe Hannover. "The combination of a two-day conference program, digital exhibition and networking opportunities is intended to serve the industry as a platform for information exchange, networking and business initiation, especially in times of crisis.
Exhibitors have the opportunity to present their innovative products, developments and product premieres digitally. The products can be clicked on and videos and further information are linked behind them. In addition to product presentations there will be interactive workshops and forums with video chats.
The digital format will also bring together leading figures from various industry sectors for discussion rounds on the topics of future mobility, urban logistics and multi- and intermodality on the web. Also on the agenda are the topics of urban and spatial development, security and micro-mobility for all age groups.
Visitors can visit the virtual trade fair from the comfort of their own PC. They will be given extensive opportunities for interaction: chat functions, video calls and speed dating will enable them to talk to experts and give feedback.
"Certainly, a virtual industry show cannot completely replace a classic trade fair and personal contact. But in the future it can become a valuable addition," adds Erdmann. "The coming weeks and months will show how enriching the new digital format will be for the micromobility industry.
The micromobility expo celebrated its premiere last year. Around 3,000 visitors came to the exhibition centre at the beginning of May 2019 to find out about the trends in increasingly electrically driven mobility "for the last mile".
Next year, the micromobility expo will again be a live event. It will take place from 27 to 29 May 2021 under the Expo wooden roof at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds.
