Plastic packaging made from renewable and recycled raw materials - Neste and Jokey start cooperation

Neste and the Jokey Group launch a strategic cooperation. Neste is a global supplier of renewable fuels and renewable and recycled solutions for the chemical industry, and Jokey is a leading international manufacturer of rigid plastic packaging. The aim is to jointly develop sustainable plastic packaging from renewable and recycled raw materials in the food and non-food sectors for the market.

Through this cooperation, both companies want to promote the use of sustainable plastic packaging more strongly. These include packaging in which Jokey also processes high-quality drop-in hydrocarbons from Neste, obtained from renewable and recycled raw materials. The aim is also to support Jokey customers from the filling industry in achieving their sustainability goals more quickly by using ecologically sound materials. Through their cooperation, Jokey and Neste intend to further promote the use of renewable and recyclable raw materials in the future, thereby strengthening a plastics industry based on circular value creation.
Jokey produces plastic buckets, plastic boxes and plastic trays. These are 100 percent recyclable. Jokey packaging for the food and non-food sector stands for the highest quality, hygiene, user-friendliness and innovation. Nestes raw materials for plastics production consist of renewable and recycled components derived from biomass, such as various waste and residual oils and fats as well as chemically recycled plastic waste. These are very well suited for the production of high-quality plastic packaging and are of the same high quality as conventionally produced plastics. In addition, they fit in well with existing production and recycling infrastructures, are physiologically harmless and can also be used in contact with sensitive filling goods such as food or medical products.
"The Jokey Eco Concept 2.0 is our guideline in the development towards more sustainability. Our packaging is already designed to meet the requirements of sustainable recycling management. We are always exploring new avenues and look forward to an inspiring exchange with Neste in order to further advance our sustainable packaging solutions in the future", emphasises Michael Schmidt, Chief Procurement Officer of the Jokey Group.
"As far as our commitment to sustainability is concerned, we have a lot in common with Jokey," emphasises Mercedes Alonso, Executive Vice President for Renewable Polymers and Chemicals at Neste. "We are pleased to be able to support Jokey in the development of packaging solutions based on renewable and circular raw materials. In this way, we can bundle our forces excellently and jointly drive forward the change to a closed loop economy for plastics.
